“Price and the location was great and the Motel itself was not bad at all....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2010

I seriously wonder where did those terrible reviews came from.. It was absolutely cozy and clean place with cheap price to spend quality time with your family and friends. Realistically it looks and is horrible when you compare or had a great expectation it might've been same conditon as Hilton Hotel.. then you should spend much more than $60 per night.. Anyways, my family and I had a wonderful timeat Scottish Lodge and would go back again on our next trip.

“Unlike the other reviews, I think Scottish Lodge is a nice place to stay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

I read the reviews on Scottish Lodge in Ferndale, WA, and they were completely unfair. It was a decent, clean, safe, and quiet motel. My only complaint was the room was stuffy and needed to be aired out more. It's not the Trump Tower so don't expect a lot of amenities but I had no problems with the staff, my clean room, or noise, or rowdy guests.
This cheap motel does attract some live-in residents BUT the live-ins all stay on the back side of the motel completely separate from people or families staying only a few nights, mainly on the front side
I called a more modest-priced chain motel a few blocks away for a price comparison on a 3-day weekend stay. They were going to charge over $300 compared to Scottish Lodge charging less than $200.
I chose to stay at Scottish Lodge over the chain motel close by. Why? Scottish Lodge was clean, quiet, safe and 40% cheaper. How can you beat that deal in these tough economic times.

“Disgusting!”

This hotel was not only dirty but un-safe as well. There are live-in tenants that were arguing and becoming violent right outside of our room. We checked out after only 45 mins and were not given any type of refund even though the conditions were terrible. The room was dark, dingy, and smelled like a bar at closing time.

“Never again!”

A friend and I needed to stay in the area the night before a triathlon at Semiahmoo. With little available accommodation, we ended up at the Scottish Lodge, hoping that the reviews we'd seen were unrepresentative. Let's just say our fears were well-founded.

The room was dark, dingy, dirty and - worst of all - damp. There was serious discussion about the possibility of sleeping in our wetsuits so as to have a barrier between us and the sheets! It was almost impossible to close the curtains. When we woke up in the morning our clothes and sandals were damp, as if they'd been out on a dewy night.

The only upside was that we didn't encounter any of the "residents" other reviewers have mentioned. On that front, maybe we were just lucky.

I would rather drive 100 miles each way than stay at the Scottish Lodge ever again.

“Awful”

We went with a group and all that I spoke with had issues but here is what I witnessed.
This hotel had live in residents that were scary and nasty and very suspiciousof us
We walked by one of the live-in's room twice and both times the lady hollered things at us.
my kids found bullet holes in the posts.
our room was dusty and there was paint splattered all over the furniture
fire extinguishers were missing from the hall ways
batteries missing from smoke detector
light bulbs were burnt out
holes in the walls and a gap between the wall and the ceiling
cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and doorways
razor cuts on the bathroom countertops
cigerette burns on the bathtub
the curtains would not close and were falling off the curtain rods due to missing hooks I had to use a hair clip to keep them closed.
and there was no security lock on the door
Very unsettling to stay here.
