Taken from the letter I sent to the head office:
"Maybe it was an "under 40" floor, whereas stereotyped guests under 40 years old would stay in one place disturbing only each other. As 3 females, we were looking to stay in a safe, clean area. I unfortunately have only 3 pictures to provide of our room before my camera's battery died, but I can give at least descriptions of what is not covered.
To start, upon walking the hallways there were very obvious stains on the carpet in random doorways. The stains resembled vomit among other various disturbing stains. That should have been the first thing I took a picture of but I'm sure you could ask a staff member at that hotel to do that seeming as I don't think the stains will be going anywhere anytime soon.
We requested a smoking room. In many other hotels we stayed at where a smoking room was requested we have never been bombarded with the foul odour of musty stale smoke. In most cases these odours can be removed with a thorough cleaning.
Terrified to see what the sheets and beds looked like we flipped over the covers to find the sheets were at least nicely pressed and seemed reasonably clean. As for the comforters - burn holes - and lots of them (see picture attached). These are definitely in need of replacement. Needless to say we were a bit apprehensive about sleeping in the beds without being fully clothed.
Along with this was the shape of the curtains. I know curtains may not seem like a big deal but when they're covered in something that looks like would be found on a CSI crime scene, it's disturbing (see picture).
Oddly, below the heater/AC Unit, the floor felt wet and damp both in the evening and in the morning yet there was no open windows or sinks nearby to do this.
The walls did have some noticeable staining which a simple good eye and bottle of "Fantastik" could have resolved.
To top it all off, we had a sleepless night due to the boisterous rowdy guests down the hall and the fear that bedbugs were crawling out from beneath the bed.
Why did we stay there and not complain to front desk? We stayed because it was 1:30 in the morning and we were exhausted after driving 4 straight hours. We didn't say anything at the front desk because we were rushed to leave and the last time I mentioned something at the front desk nothing was done to ease my distress.
Paying $70 dollars for this room was a joke (comparing our $85 dollar room the next night at the Holiday Inn which was a great room). The fact that this hotel chain is able to meet "AAA" standards is unbelievable.
Needless to say, when it is 1:30 a.m., and we are in desperate need of sleep and we come across a Day's Inn, I'm going to opt for the chance of an accident and keep driving."
