“don't panic....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

Don't panic when you drive up to this property and see the rabbits eating the weeds growing thru the cracks in the tennis courts. Hold off making a quick judgement as you walk past the abandoned oven and worn exteriors of the condos. Wait until you open the door to your beautifully furnished condo and meet the manager Mike before you make a decision about this place. We loved it. Best points: The inside of the condo is spacious and well organized. Our family of 5 stayed in 12B which had 2 baths and 2 BR. The pool area was pretty. Potted flowers all around and a hot tub with a great view of the beach. We saw great sunsets while sitting by the campfire Mike built on the edge of the property by the beach.
We took a Whale Watching trip ( $100 per person for 3.5 hours) with Paul, an enaging and knowledgable tour guide /captain. We saw about 20 whales from the local pod and were lucky enough to see some breaching.
The property is about 1 1/2 miles from the cute little town of Eastsound. There are many good coffee and lunch spots there but only a few places open after 4 PM. There is a great pizza place open at night. ( We can not recall the name but it is on the second floor of a building in Eastsound.) Good tennis courts are 1/2 mile away.
If we were in the area again we would stay here.

nice stay- appears to be individually owned condos that you rent out.

Pros: condo living, refrigerator, microwave, washer/dryer

Cons: nearby airport noise, mostly from 8 am until evening. not after dark usually.
you have to supply laundry soap and hair dryer.
no A/C but rarely needed as your are right on the beach- fans are available

“We love Smuggler's”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2008

We go to Smuggler's every Memorial Day. It's our yearly reunion, usually more than 10 families with children, and we love it every year. The facilities are great, heated pool, volleyball field, b-ball court, tennis, the lawn, play area with swings and slides, everything is just fantastic. We have plenty of room to stay active and play games, etc, or just relax and do nothing at all. We always end the day by the fire, on the beach, it's just a perfect setting.
The townhouses and ramblers are very clean, kitchens are well equipped, there's no need to eat in town should you not want to. Go catch some big trout from Cascade Lake in Moran State Park (15 minutes by car), come back and throw it on the grill, ask Mike how to cook it if you're not sure, there's nothing better.
Go to Smugglers, have fun, you'll enjoy every moment.

“Enjoyed Smugglers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2008

Stayed at Smugglers for a week with wife and two children. Excellent place for families as there were a lot of other kids around. Pool, tennis court, hot tub, nightly fire pit, a marina right there and a little over a mile to town of Eastsound. Our two bedroom "villa" was in good shape with a very good kitchen and a washer/dryer. One of the beds could have used a new mattress though. Smugglers is right near the airport so you have to get used to take-offs and landing by propeller planes during the day but it's not really a big deal. Also, nice owners who were very helpful.

“Loved it with exception to the noise...”

My boyfriend and I stayed at Smugglers for four days in July. I was shocked when I walked in the door to our rambler. It was more space than the two of us needed but I loved it. Everything was clean and the overall atmosphere was very inviting. The pool was awesome and they even have an "Adults Only" hour which was nice. The resort managers were also very kind and helpful.
The location is nice as well. We enjoyed walking to the water to watch the sunset. It's also only about a mile walk into Eastsound, where the stores and restaurants are, and there's a public path that takes you straight there.
My only complaint is the resort is over run by kids and parents that don’t control their volume when most of us would. I wouldn't mind the noise if it weren't for the fact that the noise went on until about 11:00 or 12:00 at night and then started back up at about 7:30 AM. For this reason only, we would not stay here again. We really wanted to be able to sleep in on our vacation. The resort is also right next to an airport but the noise didn't really bother us. It stopped at night.

I would definately recommend this resort to large families that are looking for a nice getaway. It's a great place for families and their young ones to let loose. The managers even encourage it. : )

  • Liked — The rambler was awesome. The managers were very accomodating... even when I locked our key in the rambler...
  • Disliked — Noisy kids and parents... couldn't sleep in. : ) AND we couldn't bring our dog with us. They have a
