After extensive Internet research on the many B&B's available on Orcas Island, we decided on the Double Mountain - making our decision based on the website pictures of the view and the very reasonable rates.
We were not disappointed! The views are breathtaking...you can see the lights of Canada on a clear night. We stayed in the Sunrise Vista Suite, which was a very large and comfortable room with a TV, VCR (and assortment of movies), mini-fridge, two sinks, and a full tub/shower...all for $125! The room opens up through a sliding door to a large deck from which we could enjoy the view and the starry night sky.
Staying at the Double Mountain was like staying at the home of a good friend. Warm, friendly and personal...not like some of the fancier but more commercial B&B's that seem to be the trend nowadays. The proprietor, Gail, is friendly and a wonderful cook. Her breakfasts were wonderful - Dutch Babies served with your choice of lemon and powdered sugar, home made applesauce or raspberry sauce, sausages, fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee...on the second morning, mushroom and cheese omlettes, buttered english muffins with preserves, and again - the fresh fruit (melons and fresh berries), OJ and coffee. I should mention that Gail got up early the second morning to serve breakfast for us by 7:30 - since we had to catch an early ferry back to the mainland. She was also a wealth of information regarding things to do, places to go, and where to get a good meal.
Double Mountain is conveniently located just minutes out of EastSound and a short drive from Moran State Park. Because it's at the top of a steep and somewhat winding gravel road, you feel like you're really "away from it all" - even though you're just minutes away from the action.
I highly recommend this B&B to anyone looking for value, comfort and good food in a home-like setting - with a spectacular view!
