“Could be worse.....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We decided to go find snow one winter evening, and decided to stay in the Chehalis/Centralia area because of the random snow accumulation. We have passed Americas Best Value Inn many times while driving down Interstate 5 and we have wanted to stay there for a long time due to the view of the lake. Call us crazy, but we enjoy the sound of the interstate traffic in the background while we sleep. This looked like the perfect place.

Upon arrival we met with the night clerk who was very friendly. He matched our price from an online travel site, which made the room $43 and change. He gave us our key cards and we headed off to our room.

The key cards took some "jimmying" to get the door to properly read the key, but we eventually got in. The room was okay, nothing special, but decent enough. The back door leads to a public balcony with a nice view of the lake. We found out later that the back door does not actually lock properly, but we weren't too worried about it because the door does not actually have a door handle. This would make it very difficult for any bad guys to actually get in.

One of our initial complaints was the strange color of the lighting in the room. Each lamp had the "daylight" colored compact florescent bulbs in them which created a not-so-cozy ambiance. The bathroom bulbs were the "warm" color compact florescent, so we quickly swapped the bulbs out of the bathroom and into the bedroom area. The TV was small and old, and the volume buttons on the remote needed to be pushed very hard to operate. The sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable.

The bathroom didn't seem that clean.... sticky floors, smelly towel, and a strange nasty odor when flushing the toilet (it wasn't me I swear), even after multiple flushes! We were provided with 1 towel, which we weren't certain if it was clean or not.... had a weird smell and stains. We also noticed that there was no tissue in the box.

Overall this was a slightly below average motel. We will not stay here again anytime soon, even though the property itself is in a great location. King Oscar Motel has comparable prices and a much nicer room (despite the lack of a lake view). This could be a really nice place if they just stepped up their cleaning practices a little.... maybe we will try again in a few years....

Room Tip: Switch the bathroom light bulbs for the bedroom bulbs....

“ok for just 1 night...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed here for 1 night during our 3-weeks-northwestern tour. The Motel is right next to the freeway but wasn´t as noisy as expected when we arrived. There was nobody at the front desk upon arrival. After about 10 minutes waiting and ringing the bell (we already thought about leaving and finding a place where they love to have guests) a woman appeared who wasn´t a bit sorry about keeping us waiting and who wasn´t very friendly during check-in. We found the room ok (clean enough for 1 night) and when I went back to the front desk for directions to a certain restaurant we were looking for, the woman was a lot friendlier and even looked it up on the internet. Breakfast was orange juice, waffle mix and packaged cookies. Well, the best thing about their breakfast was that they offered it. So we decided to go to Starbucks instead.

“Just go somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

It was dirty and gross and smelled. Just go into town there is a motel 6 right to the left and it is probably a lot better and the same price.

The breakfast was just a waffle maker with no waffle mix.
the sign says $45 a night, but that is only during the week and only one person. We paid a lot because we were a family of four and it was expensive compared to other hotels out there. the tv was falling apart and it was really hard to figure out the remotes. so annoying.

It is run by Indian family, so they are hard to understand. nothing against them, just I could not understand a word and just nodded my head like I understood.

“Great Long Stay for Baseball Tournament”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

We just completed a 5 night stay and enjoyed the motel. The motel is located right next to the freeway off-ramp and faces a nice little lake. This is a budget hotel and worth considering. Sign reads $45.00 a night, but we paid more because of the weekend stay and it being prime vacation time. Breakfast is waffles, Otis's muffins, etc. and it will do. Coffee was great. Everything worked well and rooms had recently been redone, so it was well worth the money. It met our needs just fine and we liked it for the longer stay. (The next off ramp is the access to a couple of large outlet malls.. great shopping and prices are right.)

“Horrific Experience - Still Haunted and Creeped Out”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2011

We arrived around 10:00 PM and checked in. Raj, the man running the front desk, seemed nice at first. After loading into our room on the second floor, things seemed okay, though the floor was a bit dirty. I discovered the door on the other side of the room was completely unlocked. Odd, right?
I got a plastic cup to get some water and noticed the trash can was missing. There wasn't a trash can in the room. Again, odd. Then, I noticed a BLOODY SYRINGE in the tissue holder beneath the sink and I noticed a blood splatter on the wall next to the bathtub. My partner brought the syringe to the lobby and Raj put the syringe in an envelope and slipped it under the desk. He came to our room and told us that everything was fine. My partner slept with one eye open and constantly heard people turning the knob to our room all night.
The next morning, I took a shower and went to grab a towel when I saw drops of blood on the towel. My partner took the towel to the lobby and asked for a refund for the room. Raj and another Indian man came to the room, inspected the bathroom, and told us it was "just dirt" on the wall and spoke to each other in a foreign language. They then told us we could have our refund if we left within five minutes (!!!!).
Our refund was $40 in bills and the rest in loose change. Two nights later, I wrote the ABVI corporation and got a generic response and had my complaint forwarded to the management at the inn. A couple days later, I got another generic apology letter from the inn, apologizing for the "dirt." No compensation, nothing.
We will never ever ever ever stay at one of these chains again.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We appreciate your comments. We apologize for any inconvenience you encountered while staying at our inn. We use your review to assist us in further training our staffs and and to evaluate our facility for future upgrade and changes.
Incidentally the back door to the room opens out to the balcony which faces the lake and can only be opened from inside of the room and there is no door knob on the outside of the door. Again we apolgize for any inconvenience you had.
