There are 6 small "rustic" cabins and 1 Overnight Lodge overlooking Silver Lake. These used to be privately owned as part of a fishing resort here, and so were "fishing cabins." The Whatcom County Parks Dept. took over the resort and made improvements to the cabins, such as adding electricity, running water (now including hot), gas for the stoves and heaters, vinyl flooring, mouse proofing (to the extent that it's possible to mouse proof!), etc. But still there are no toilets in the cabins, just partially heated enhanced outhouses, and a few minutes walk away there is a heated bath house with flush toilets, sinks, and hot showers.
Cleanliness is what you would expect with this type of accommodation. My ratings of 2/5 for cleanliness and 3/5 for rooms are based on comparison to standard hotel and cabin accommodation. But if you are OK with rustic, then these cabins are great.
Some cabins are very small, just 1 room. Some cabins have 2 rooms and some have stone fireplaces. You must bring bedding and cooking utensils.
Service rating is low because staff are not always available. I never even met them.
But there was not much need anyway. Things worked well for the most part. There is an emergency contact available. Booking is only by phone or in person.
The location is excellent, and is very peaceful. I will go back.
Check the Whatcom County Parks Dept. website for info and photos.
