Initially, I wanted to book a room at the downtown Bellevue Hyatt, however, after talking to a phone rep, I learned that the configuration of the rooms was not conducive to a family traveling with child + a teenager. I opted to book a 2-night stay at the Hotel Sierra which was recently acquired by Hyatt as it is an all-suite property.
The hotel sits in an office complex directly across from Interstate 90 -- light sleepers beware as you will hear varying levels of highway noise depending on your room's location. The desk staff was welcoming and facilitated a quick check in. The public areas were clean and well lit. The indoor pool/hot tub were a nice touch.
The room was clean, well appointed 1-bedroom suite with a full kitchen. My only complaints - the sofabed was completely useless/uncomfortable & the room design was awkward -- yes, it was nice having an en-suite bath, however, my teenage son had to walkthrough the bedroom to access the bathroom.
Our first night was pleasant - I had asked for a room in the back of the hotel and only heard highway noise during the day. Again, if you're a light sleeper, I would suggest using ear plugs to ensure a restful night.
The hotel buffet, included in the room price, was adequate. Although the food was replenished quickly, it was marginal at best. Since there are no restaurants within walking distance of the property, being able to tank-up my family on yogurt, eggs, potatoes, cereal, bread, and pork products (I didn't know sausage and bacon could be flavorless) was a decent convenience. I will add that the waitstaff at the buffet were EXCEPTIONALLY NICE.
The second night was not as pleasant - after a long day of activities, we returned after dinner and found that the room had not been cleaned. I promptly contacted the front desk and was brought clean towels and was told that there was no housekeeping on duty and I would have to wait until the next morning for a full room cleaning. After a long day, I did not relish nor appreciate having to tidy up our room, to insure my family had a comfortable night's rest.
Upon check-out, I brought this issue to the front desk clerk's attention. My gripe was that I had OPTIONS to stay at another Hyatt facility. I had OPTIONS to stay with relatives. However, I OPTED to stay at the Hotel Sierra with the expectation that daily room cleaning was a HUGE part of the room rate. I was offered a 30% room discount for ONE NIGHT, and was told to contact the GM if I wanted a larger discount. I'm still not clear as to why the clerk did not page the GM while I was at the counter, but I didn't have the time (nor inclination) to plead my case to another hotel employee.
The jury is still out on how I will view this hotel as I am vacilating on whether to escalate the issue with room cleaning. Some of you may think I'm being nit-picky, however, my view is that when a service is promised and not delivered, especially a service that impacts "comfort," that warrants escalation. A hotel is only as good as the service it renders, and how adeptly they respond to customer complaints.
Room Tip: Ask for a room near the rear of the hotel. You WILL hear highway noise but it will be significantly...
