We chose this place because it was rated #3 in Wytheville, and because there was an online coupon that gave us a $40 price. After we were given our room key (a regular key, not the usual key card), my husband realized we got 2 double beds rather than the king we wanted. Despite the place being relatively empty of cars, the desk clerk said he had no king rooms available.

The Budget Host is set well back from the road behind a Waffle House restaurant. Getting to it from the main road off the interstate requires a couple of turns and a sharp eye. The hotel is fairly convenient to several restaurants.

Our first-floor room had cinderblock walls that had been painted, with 2 of the walls also having imprints reminiscent of wallpaper. We figured these walls would make for a soundproofed sleep. Unfortunately, there was still some noise out front (particularly in the late evening and early morning) from travelers arriving and departing.

The room was spacious, with a small table and chairs, refrigerator, dresser and sofa. But an old "desk" was propped up on one end of the (newer) dresser and didn't remotely look like it belonged there. The carpeting appeared to be fairly new.

There are "threats" in many areas of this motel saying, for example, that the towels are invisibly marked and you will be charged if you take them. Also, another one stating you will be evicted without refund if you have more room occupants than you checked in.

Don't be fooled by online photos of the breakfast "buffet." While it looks like it's in a room of its own, the buffet is actually in the small lobby area. You must return to your room carrying food if you want to sit down while you eat. Further, you are scrutinized by the desk clerk as you select your food. There's little good to eat, so you'd be far better off going to Waffle House for a decent $4 or $5 breakfast. The hotel operator would probably do well to arrange a $1 discount there vs. providing what he did.

We'd consider staying there again, if given the same price, a king bed and a coupon for Waffle House.
