“Nice Clean Hotel, But Had Issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2011

Stopped at the Candlewood with my wife and 3 young kids on our way to the Outer Banks. Got the one bedroom suite with kitchenette and the room was very large, comfortable, and spacious. While we did not stay long, the kitchenette was nice to cook up some microwave dinners. Room was very clean and beds were very comfortable. The issue we had was that the elevator was broken and with 3 young kids they put us on the 4th (top) floor. Also the shower water pressure was very very high was almost uncomfortable. Otherwise it was a very nice stay.

Overall, this as a good hotel. We were able to get a friends and family rate, which made it better. If we were to pay full price, we would have probably stayed somewhere else, since we were only staying the one night.

Room Tip: Google friends and family rate code.

“I would recommend this hotel, but don't you dare leave something behind!”

My mother and I stayed here, because it was the most pet friendly hotel we could find. The rooms were nice, and exactly what we needed. Everything was very neat and clean. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Candlewood. However, a few hours after we had checked out, I realized that I had left behind my nice, woolen pea coat behind in the closet of our room... I called to see if it had been reported as found, and they said that it had not. The front desk manager said that he would run back to the room to check for me, and he found that the room had already been cleaned by housekeeping and that there was no sign of my coat! I have called for the past several days, and my coat still has not turned up. The staff has assured me that I must be mistaken, and is rude every time that I speak with them. I know that they are free from responsibility of anything left behind, but still, isn't it just a courtesy to hold on to something if it is found? Especially something expensive?! I will never stay here again, solely due to the fact that I feel that I couldn't trust the staff. I was truly disappointed in their lack of character displayed throughout this entire ordeal.

“Clean, Comfortable and a Great Value!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2010

This was my second stay at a Candlewood property and I only have good things to say about my experiences. The building felt very new and clean and the beds are really comfortable. The fact that the rooms have full kitchens make this place an excellent value. Additionally they are pet friendly and the staff was very nice. Candlewood will be my first choice wherever I stay.

“Nice, Basic, No-Frills Property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

My husband and I stayed at the Candlewood Suites in Winchester VA from October 15 – 17, 2010. We stayed two nights while attending the annual Balloon Festival in Millwood, VA.

I will confess that we were a bit letdown on arrival at the Winchester Candlewood Suites, having spent time at a Homewood Suites two weekends prior. That said, the property is not bad, it’s just different. The staff was very kind and helpful, but please keep in mind that this is a long-term stay hotel. As a result, the front desk is staffed from 7 am – 11 pm. There is no daily maid service – something that no other recent review has mentioned, but I believe it is an important consideration when deciding where to stay, so I am making special mention here. There is a small “honor” store in the lobby where you can pick up the basics for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Our suite on the second floor was very comfortable – although I wish there was a sofa or at least 2 recliners. Unfortunately, with two people staying in the room, only one of us had a comfortable chair to sit in when watching TV or movies. The room had the basics – kitchen, work desk and chair, king bed, recliner, TV, DVD player, separate closet, safe and bath. I liked that you could open the windows a bit for some fresh air. The suite was very clean and basic. The wireless Internet worked fine. The DVD player was a nice amenity even though our remote did not work properly even with new batteries.; For the price we paid, I believe we got good value.

There are lots of stores nearby (Big Lots and Joann’s) are across the street and many restaurants in the area for meals if you’re not inclined to cook. We ate at Golden Corral, IHOP and Chinatown (next door to the hotel).

All in all, a nice, basic, no-frills property that was fine for a long weekend trip to the Balloon Festival. Happy travels everyone!

“A Must for traveling with Pets-wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

We stayed at this hotel for the first time and the hotel exceeded our expectations even after reading the positive reviews. Very clean, great kitchenette and very pet friendly. Convenient pet walking area, full size refrigerator with ice maker, windows that open fully and clean large bathroom. Cupboard area on the "honor system" for guest convenience and friendly staff. Free washer and dryers, you have to purchase the laundry soap of course. Great hotel. We kept the pocket guide of the other Candlewood Suite locations and made a reservation at a Candlewood suite for our next stop on this trip.
