“Needs a 21st Century Refresh”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

My wife and I stayed at PH for 5 nights. Although our room was very spacious and nicely furnished, the building and common parts have a 1970s feel and surprisingly PH lacks an elevator.
The big benefit is being close to the Inn, and its facilities, and our package included breakfast at the Inn's restaurant which was a delight.
Staff were very friendly and efficient.
Although the historic district is close enough to walk to, there are no nearby restaurants, other than that at the Inn. We enjoy walking to/from dinner but it was a struggle at Providence Hall.
The historic area, PH, the Inn and Merchants Square seemed very quiet, even for September and there has to be a message here.

I graduated from The College of William & Mary, and despite living in Williamsburg throughout college, and numerous trips back since, I never knew this hotel was there. Nestled about a walking block to the east of The Williamsburg Inn is Providence Hall Guesthouse/Hotel.

These accommodations are not as luxurious as the Inn, but are certainly well kept, maintained. The rooms are much larger than the average hotel room, each one with a balcony overlooking either the pond or the tennis courts. They have king beds with typically uncomfortable queen sleeper sofas. I was traveling with two girlfriends, so one of us was relegated to the sleeper each night-- it was not a great night's sleep! On a bright note, there is a safe AND a mini-refrigerator in the closet, and the vanity area between the bedroom and bathroom is sizable. Williamsburg is a humid, buggy place in the summer, and I was concerned with its proximity to the woods, if we'd find some in our room. There wasn't as much as a stray ladybug!

One thing I was not prepared for was the lack of an elevator. I don't know if one is available, based on needs, but it wasn't visible from our entrance. We walked up two full flights of stairs to our floor each time we came/left.

We had access to the pools at The Williamsburg Inn, which were glorious. There is a "Quiet Pool," a "Family Pool," and an indoor lap pool and hot tub. These are close to each other and share access to locker rooms with showers and a snack & beverage bar with exceptionally good food (from the golf course grille). Towels are plentiful and large, finding lounge chairs was not a problem, even on a sunny Saturday in August.

Free wi-fi is a nice touch-- most premium hotels charge a daily fee and Colonial Williamsburg does not. We stayed for a AAA rate of $259 per night + tax. You can certainly find hotels for much less in Williamsburg, but if you're looking for the finer touches of the Williamsburg Inn, a great location at a decent price, Providence Hall is for you!

“Wounderful place”

I was charmed by this hotel.

The room is big and comfortable. The staff is attentive and mindful. The parking is convenient. The restaurant is great. The place itself is very attractive and peaceful. A piece of the heaven.

The location is great for visiting Williamsburg. Only few minutes walk to all attractions.

And, yes, this is one of few hotels where WiFi works well right in the room.

I felt myself like home. What else a traveler can expect? Huh?

“Nice but pricey”

Providence Hall is considered part of the Williamsburg Inn. It is a short walk away. The rooms are very nice, but it is pricey - less expensive than the Williamsburg Inn, but still pricey. Considering the few options in Williamsburg, you have to pay to stay somewhere nice.

“Great location and wonderful service”

After reviewing photos of the property online, I was a little nervous that it would be outdated and stuffy. My fears were quickly laid to rest when we arrived at the property. Check-in was smooth, they gave us a list of all activities going on in Colonial Williamsburg and confirmed the dinner reservations we had made before arrival. The rooms were very spacious and the bathrooms were well appointed with fancy toiletries. It was great to be able to walk to all the excitement in Colonial Williamsburg and we realize we paid a premium to be able to do so. It was well worth it and we were very happy with our choice to stay here. We would definitely come back.
