“Nice stay with a few inconveniences”

We stayed at this Hampton Inn based on the other reviews we read. We were there from Dec 27, 2011 to Dec 30, 2011. As a previous reviewer stated, the hotel was completely booked. When we arrived at 3:00 check in, there were no rooms available. We had a slight wait while they finished cleaning rooms. Our room was on the fourth floor, which is the top floor and was nice because no one was overhead. However, we had a room with an adjoining room door, and the people next door were very loud at times. You could hear them like they were in our room.
The breakfast was OK, and was VERY crowded. The first morning, we barely got a seat in the meeting room. The ladies taking care of the breakfast area were GREAT though. The day we left, the breakfast area was back to normal.
The beds were just OK, although the covers were great. The heater in our room made awful noises and I had to get up during the night and shut it off. Bathroom was clean, but there were a couple of towels that had large black marks on them. There was not very much hot water in the morning during the first part of the week.
My grandson used the pool and he had a good time.
All in all, I would stay here again. The staff were very nice. I am usually not too picky, but I thought I would state everything that we thought could have been improved.

“Fine stay at the Hampton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Stayed at the Hampton for a few days after Christmas. Had a queen suite with a sofa bed. Nice to have the larger room with the microwave and fridge. Room was clean. Had no issue with water pressure on the 3rd floor. During peak shower times the water was not as hot as it might have been but that happens in any hotel.
All the employees from the front desk to the breakfast hostess(she was awesome!) to housekeeping were exceptionally nice and very eager to help.

Hotel was completely sold out all nights that we were there so the free breakfast was always mobbed. The breakfast staff kept up everything so that the food never ran out but there was never anywhere to sit in the lounge. They did open one of the meeting rooms as an overflow seating area which we used but it is not like sitting in the lounge. Breakfast was good with the usual selection of waffles, eggs, sausages oatmeal etc.

Be aware that the internet connection is wireless in the lounge but wired in the rooms. Since my cell phone had internet acess it was only a minor inconvenience. I found it strange though as every other Hampton I have stayed at had wireless internet connection in the room

Also be aware that that they are in the process of converting from analog to digital cable tv. Our room must not yet have been converted as we had no HBO or PPV movies for the kids.

Did not use the pool or whirlpool so I can't comment on the temperature. It was always full of kids though .

We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely come back if we were in Williamsburg again. I would have given it 5 stars except for the wired internet connection in the room and analog cable TV.

“Senior's Christmas Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

A small group of us chose this Hampton Inn & Suites, because it looked nicer than the other ones online. We come every Christmas for the Grand Illumination and had a wonderful experience. The old, historic area was just a short walk from this property. Our room was spacious and clean. The staff could not have been nicer and the hotel looked new.We have stayed at numerous hotels in Williamsburg and this one was above and beyond the rest. When we return next year, we will definitely stay here again.

“Continuously Great Hotel”

I went to College in Williamsburg and since graduation have returned numerous times and have always stayed at this particular Hampton Inn. It is a fantastic hotel, location is great, close to just about everything, and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. By far one of the better hotel experiences I've had throughout my travels.

“Don't fall for the "historic district" title, too far away!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

My family enjoyed a Christmas vacation to Colonial Williamsburg. I researched the area hotels, mainly using this site, but I also went as far as looking up Google Earth to view how close this hotel is to the CW historic area. Epic fail! DO NOT stay at this hotel just because it's titled "Historic District". Upon checking in, I was quickly told that we could not walk to the historic area because the road that takes you there is a highway and too dangerous to walk. Bummer! No convenience stores around, no gas stations, no chain restaurants, no pharmacies - all of the things that a mother of 2 young children would want and need.
The rooms were dirty and dusty. The back of my chair hit the wall as I was looking out the window and a piece of plaster fell on my head and had dust on it. Gross. The pool area was enjoyable for my kids, but the amount of chlorine in the enclosed area was making people complain. The breakfast was a waste of time. They had potatoes on the days we were there. They had a bagel-type piece of bread covered in cheese, bits of potatoes and sausage and it was awful. So if your family can get by on cereal, yogurt, donuts, juices, and basic coffee - then you'll be good. Believe the rest of the reviews - the breakfast hostess is amazing, she makes up for the awful food, including the awful waffle batter.
We will visit CW again and again, we will never choose this hotel again. However, I highly recommend you stay at the Hampton Inn-Central. That hotel is located right in the middle of shops, shops, shops, and places to eat! I wish I had known.....
