“Senior's Christmas Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

A small group of us chose this Hampton Inn & Suites, because it looked nicer than the other ones online. We come every Christmas for the Grand Illumination and had a wonderful experience. The old, historic area was just a short walk from this property. Our room was spacious and clean. The staff could not have been nicer and the hotel looked new.We have stayed at numerous hotels in Williamsburg and this one was above and beyond the rest. When we return next year, we will definitely stay here again.

“Continuously Great Hotel”

I went to College in Williamsburg and since graduation have returned numerous times and have always stayed at this particular Hampton Inn. It is a fantastic hotel, location is great, close to just about everything, and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. By far one of the better hotel experiences I've had throughout my travels.

“Don't fall for the "historic district" title, too far away!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

My family enjoyed a Christmas vacation to Colonial Williamsburg. I researched the area hotels, mainly using this site, but I also went as far as looking up Google Earth to view how close this hotel is to the CW historic area. Epic fail! DO NOT stay at this hotel just because it's titled "Historic District". Upon checking in, I was quickly told that we could not walk to the historic area because the road that takes you there is a highway and too dangerous to walk. Bummer! No convenience stores around, no gas stations, no chain restaurants, no pharmacies - all of the things that a mother of 2 young children would want and need.
The rooms were dirty and dusty. The back of my chair hit the wall as I was looking out the window and a piece of plaster fell on my head and had dust on it. Gross. The pool area was enjoyable for my kids, but the amount of chlorine in the enclosed area was making people complain. The breakfast was a waste of time. They had potatoes on the days we were there. They had a bagel-type piece of bread covered in cheese, bits of potatoes and sausage and it was awful. So if your family can get by on cereal, yogurt, donuts, juices, and basic coffee - then you'll be good. Believe the rest of the reviews - the breakfast hostess is amazing, she makes up for the awful food, including the awful waffle batter.
We will visit CW again and again, we will never choose this hotel again. However, I highly recommend you stay at the Hampton Inn-Central. That hotel is located right in the middle of shops, shops, shops, and places to eat! I wish I had known.....

“Nothing great about this place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We stayed here for our trip to Williamsburg over New Year's weekend. I am glad we used points to pay for our trip because I would not have wanted to pay more than $50 a night for this place. The water pressure in the bathroom sink was so low that I could barely clean my razor in the water. When you take a shower you spend all the time adjusting the temperature which changes about every 2-3 seconds as someone else in the hotel flushes a toilet or uses a sink. The heater in the room was terrible. When it comes on it pushes out ice cold air for a few minutes, then goes to hot air and then back to the refrigeration. The manager said that this was because it was "so cold" outside (39 degrees is "so cold"? What do they do when it gets to 20?) He told us to take the unit off of "auto" and just let it run all day long. Not very energy efficient, eh? But you get what you pay for and if you have a boatload of kids, want the free breakfast and are only looking for a place to crash for the night then I guess this is OK. But if you are looking for a semi-high quality place this is not the place. Check out the many B&Bs instead. That is what we are doing next time.

“Terrific Hotel Choice”

Our stay at this hotel during the post-Christmas week wa excellent. The hotel is attractive and is convenient to Colonial Williamsburg especially once you learn the best route to take. Our studio suite was huge with two quen sized beds and a sleeper sofa and was very quiet. The staff was exceptionally friendly and the business center was quite suitable. Breakfast was tasty and offered a couple of variations during our three days. Though there is limited seating, we always snagged a table without a problem and there was ample staff working the breakfast area and each wore a smile throughout our visit. Our only criticism would be the less than ideal water pressure in our top floor room's shower. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel.
