“Great experience”

We stayed for a second year in a row at the Brick House Shop. Its a cute little house and you are right around the corner to the main street. We had some issues with the room a door knob came off and the sink was missing a stopper. Our maid Dale made sure everything was done. She let the right people know and they had it fixed right away. It is nice to have be in a house on vacation and right in the middle of all the history.

“Chiswell-Bucktrout House made us feel a part of Colonial Williamsburg”

There were two couples in our party and had made reservations for Dec 8-11. One of our party belonged to the foundation and was able to secure the rooms at a discounted rate. The house itself was charming, our rooms were spacious and we didn't mind the smaller bathrooms as we knew that this was expected. (Also, very minimal space for toiletries, so glad that I have a toiletry kit that can hang on the back of a door.) The location is just behind Duke of Gloucester Street and Kings Arm Tavern. We walked to the Williamsburg Inn and started each day from the lobby where we enjoyed complimentary coffee while sitting in front a fireplace. The only complaint was that the first night in the room, there was a banging sound all night from the furnace but this was quickly fixed as we did not hear this again. We would stay here again and look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor and you might want to check into a room with a fireplace.

“Brick House Tavern Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We stayed in rm 3079 at the Brick house Tavern for 3 days over Thanksgiving and loved it. Being inside the vilage gives a different experience. Room was small by luxury standards with a double bed and just enough space to manuver around it. Phone and flat screen included. Bathroom was very clean and well provided although not luxury due to size. This building has about 16 rooms and a common area in basement. Our breakfast was provided which meant a 3 block walk to Williamsburg Inn, all of their services are available to Colonial house guests. Parking was right behind our building. Lounging in the room was not our priority and partaking in the Village events was our goal, we never moved the car. Cleaning the Village streets starts around 7am and will wake you if lodging on that side of building as we were. We plan on doing this again but hope to try one of the larger house rooms.

Room Tip: A call to a concierge may help in defining your room goals since no two are alike. Room layouts are...

“A Very Cool Idea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

Staying right in the restored Colonial town of Williamsburg is a great experience. Some friends of ours stayed there and passed on a coupon for a free night to us. So we took advantage and went to Williamsburg, VA last week for a short get-away. We were fortunate that the day we were there was balmy and beautiful. The following day, when we traveled home, was a deluge.
But I digress. We checked out the available accommodations on the Williamsburg website and found that there were many different kinds. We decided we wanted to have privacy and some extra space (not just a bedroom and bathroom), and we found just what we wanted in the Robert Carter Kitchen. It was two rooms: a living room with fireplace and refrigerator on the lower level and a bedroom and bath upstairs. The accommodations were comfortable but by no means luxurious. They were appropriate for the times they represent. There were other tenants in our little building. so we had no problems with noise or othere disturbances. We also had no critter invasions. The location was ideal, just off the Palace Green right in the middle of Duke of Gloucester Street. We walked all around and had a great time.
We've been to Williamsburg several times over the last 35 years and find that the restored town gets better and better with more and more re-enactors and demonstrators of Colonial trades. Being so near to William and Mary College, it's also nice to see the college kids out and about, living in such an historic area.
We recommend the Colonial Houses if you're into history and ambience.

“David Morton House Secluded and Lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

My husband and I have stayed in several of the colonial homes offered for rent in Williamsburg, Virginia, but the David Morton House, first floor, really stands out. It is located on Waller Street, not far from Christiana Campbell's Restaurant. It is also across the street form one of CW's shuttle bus stops. The house is quite large; it has a bedroom with a queen bed, several chairs, desk, and a fireplace. There is a sitting room with a sofa, chairs, desk, small refrigerator and another fireplace. There were televisions in both rooms. The bathroom is not large but still quite nice. The soaps and shampoos provided were of top quality. The parking area is located behind the house...I would park in front of the house to unload luggage and then park the car. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic getaway, the David Morton House will fit your requirements.

Room Tip: If you want the luxury of staying in a colonial house but also want a bit of privacy, this house wou...
