“Pleasant surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We had a gift certificate for it and, having never stayed at a B&B before, we were a tad apprehensive. Visions of Petticoat Junction, parlor games, and one bathroom for the the population in general sprang to mind. We steeled ourselves for stuffiness and fake Tiffany floor lamps. This was NOT the case. The proprietors were delightful, the room was immaculate (private bath!) and the breakfasts were well worth it. I don't know about it being especially political, except for the signs on the parking spots, but with a name like "White House Inn" you have to expect something on that order. Ergo the name. We will be back.

Room Tip: We stayed in Adams.

“Too political”

If your idea of a get-away is a Republican National Committee Meeting, than this is the place for you! The inn is lovely, immaculately clean and serves a good breakfast but I wish I had known the name "White House" referred to the innkeepers political views, not the exterior color of the inn. We were greeted by the innkeeper with, "I noticed you didn't park in the parking space marked Republican" and "Say whatever you like while your here, we don't believe in political correctness". The common area was decorated with pictures of Republican high-lights and Democrat low-lights. We especially thought the framed picture of Monica Lewinsky was in poor taste. This has nothing to do with our political affiliations, I am a registered Independent and my husband is a registered Republican. We both feel you do not discuss politics in polite company, especially if you are in the service industry. And we always try to leave the troubles of the world behind us when we travel. It's a shame that this was our first and last impression of the inn because, otherwise, we thought the inn was lovely.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Jefferson Room. Although the room is somewhat small, it is beautifully decorated, c...

Hi Arlene,
Thank you so much for taking the time to express your feelings regarding your recent stay. I am sorry you were unhappy with the "political humor" that was present during your stay. We definitely never want to make you feel like you are at a "Republican National Committe Meeting" nor involve you in political discussion if you prefer not to. Politics are certainly a HUGE conversation in todays society and our theme tends to jump start alot of that conversation. All of our rooms and common areas are themed after the White House, not our political views as you stated in your review. We try to bring humor to a very tense political climate in todays society and represent both sides of the political spectrum. I am sorry you took offense to the picture of Monica, it is humor, nothing else. We have a JFK Library as one of our main common areas as well as a FDR Suite so your accusation that we only show Rupublican high lights and Democrat low lights is innacurate. We know that our guests are here to escape the craziness of daily life and that is why we hope you also bring your sense of humor with you. The Inn is themed with history and politics as duly noted in the name, The White House. We try to have "fun" with our theme and are sorry you did not appreciate it. On a more positive note, I am glad you found your accommodations "lovely" and clean. We strive to maintain our Inn to please all of our guests. We wish you the best!

“41 years later”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

During our 41 years of marriage we have been to Colonial Williamsburg 2 times with our son, once during Spring Vacation and once for the summer vacation, but each time just stayed in a hotel. My husband and I always talked about seeing the sites at Christmas time and decided this would be the year.I searched the internet for a place to stay and was impressed with the package deal and the pictures of A White House B&B.We had never stayed in one before, but our first experience was wonderful. The pictures were true, the inn keepers were extremely friendly, breakfasts were delicious and we met interesting, social people who also made us feel comfortable. We both agreed "let's do this again".

“Absolutely glowing at Christmas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

I selected The White House from the internet website in Oct/Nov. 2011. The pictures of how this B&B is decorated at Christmastime really drew me in--in reality it was even more beautiful and cozy and tastefully decorated (the only thing missing was the snow!) than in the pictures! It is set back from the street and both exterior and interior are aglow with Christmas lights and greenery. From the exquisite, white-lit, red-ribboned tree in the living room to the boughs and lights adorning the banisters, I knew I had made a great choice! Once inside, we were offered a late afternoon sampling of cookies, sweets, and a variety of wines and sherrys set out for all the guests. We stayed in the "Washington" room (all rooms are themed with a President's name) and were my hubby and teenage son ever pleased to find a TV in the suite! The room was decorated colonial-style with portraits of George Washington. The bed was SO comfortable, with a scrumptious, warm, plump, white comforter on top-- it made it harder to get up in the a.m.! The breakfasts are made to order and so RICH - eggs benedict, stuffed french toast, belgian waffles - delicious, although I may have preferred perhaps a lower-calorie option! Two mornings we ate in an elegant, stately library and the third morning we sat in the main dining room, where you can chat with the other houseguests at a beautiful, long dining table.
This B&B is right across from William & Mary College and about 6/10 mile from "Market Square" shopping area which is adjacent to Colonial Williamsburg. The owners were friendly and hospitable but did not linger for extended conversations as at other B&Bs I have been to. I definitely recommend going to the White House, especially at Christmastime - it is as pretty as a picture!!

Room Tip: If you have a teenager or another adult with you, they can accommodate you in the Washington room...

“A warm and cozy retreat!”

My husband and I were approaching our 25th anniversary, and we decided to celebrate by visiting Colonial Williamsburg. We had been researching a place to stay near by the Historic village. Having never had the experience of staying in a Bed and Breakfast, we decided to try it out. We had googled and found A Williamsburg White House Bed and Breakfast. We loved the whole idea of the coziness of a B & B, picking out our room, being with in walking distance of Historic Williamsburg , and having breakfast provided for us! Upon arriving we immediately fell in love, the house was decorated for Christmas and looked so cozy. We were greeted by the inn keeper, he was very friendly and welcoming. We stayed in the Lincoln room. The king size bed was very comfortable, loved the separate bathrooms, and loved the area that was to resemblethe Ford Theater! The breakfasts were not only delicious but very filling. We never eat such large breakfasts! I liked knowing what was on the menu the night before. The Inn keepers were very prompt on serving breakfast, that way we could eat and get on with our day! We loved meeting other couples, many were from other parts of the country. We enjoyed the social aspect of breakfast, sitting in the dinning room together. It was a very nice way to get aquainted with the house guests! The Inn keepers were very warm, welcoming and helpful, answering any questions we might have. This was a wonderful experience for us. We would love to come back, next time we would love to bring our adult children and their spouses!! Thank you John and Deb for a wonderful time!!
