I selected The White House from the internet website in Oct/Nov. 2011. The pictures of how this B&B is decorated at Christmastime really drew me in--in reality it was even more beautiful and cozy and tastefully decorated (the only thing missing was the snow!) than in the pictures! It is set back from the street and both exterior and interior are aglow with Christmas lights and greenery. From the exquisite, white-lit, red-ribboned tree in the living room to the boughs and lights adorning the banisters, I knew I had made a great choice! Once inside, we were offered a late afternoon sampling of cookies, sweets, and a variety of wines and sherrys set out for all the guests. We stayed in the "Washington" room (all rooms are themed with a President's name) and were my hubby and teenage son ever pleased to find a TV in the suite! The room was decorated colonial-style with portraits of George Washington. The bed was SO comfortable, with a scrumptious, warm, plump, white comforter on top-- it made it harder to get up in the a.m.! The breakfasts are made to order and so RICH - eggs benedict, stuffed french toast, belgian waffles - delicious, although I may have preferred perhaps a lower-calorie option! Two mornings we ate in an elegant, stately library and the third morning we sat in the main dining room, where you can chat with the other houseguests at a beautiful, long dining table.
This B&B is right across from William & Mary College and about 6/10 mile from "Market Square" shopping area which is adjacent to Colonial Williamsburg. The owners were friendly and hospitable but did not linger for extended conversations as at other B&Bs I have been to. I definitely recommend going to the White House, especially at Christmastime - it is as pretty as a picture!!
Room Tip: If you have a teenager or another adult with you, they can accommodate you in the Washington room...
