When we can, we like to visit Williamsburg around Christmas time to stock up on goodies to give out as presents. Since we live about 2 hrs away, we typically just drive down and back in a single day, but this time we decided to make a weekend out of it, so we booked a suite at the Woodlands. In the past, we've opted for the Lodge, but this time around we still wanted something on the premises, but didn't want to shell out the extra money for a Lodge room. Despite that, this hotel certainly doesn't disappoint. Although it's a bit farther away, it's right next to the Welcome Center so you can either catch the shuttle to the park or walk. We love walking, so took the approximately half-mile walk to the park.
Our suite was really nice, having a living room area, a spacious bathroom, and a nice bedroom as well. It also had a small fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Another plus was that you still get the great little toiletries that you get from some of the other more expensive hotels. They're lilac lotion smells wonderful! Our room came with the breakfast which was a typical continental breakfast, but still a good way to get your day started.
Also, as a side note, if you can, definitely visit Williamsburg around Christmas time. The decorations on the buildings are gorgeous! I'm not usually someone who oohs and aahs over Christmas decorations, but I was thoroughly impressed during this visit.
