Upon entering the room I immediately noticed that the sheets and towels were disheveled (I was worried they hadn’t been washed, but they appeared to be clean upon inspection). One of the lamps was broken, the safe was locked so I couldn’t use it, and the air in the room was extremely dry (so dry that I ran the shower at 2-3 AM to add humidity to the room - I kept waking up from the discomfort). After purchasing tickets at the visitor center I learned that the hotel could have sold me discount tickets – the hotel never communicated this to me. I complained to the hotel management about my stay, but they never responded.

My family and I stayed in the newer part of the Lodge. I thought it was great-- very clean and really comfortable-- nice decor. I'm mostly just picky about the clean part. We chose the lodge for it's location-- walking distance to Duke of Gloucester Street. From what I could tell it was the most reasonable hotel within walking distance of the colonial stuff.

We didn't check out any of the other hotel amenities because we were there for such a short stay-- can't comment on those.

My wife and I had another nice visit to Williamsburg. We were looking forward to the Christmas decorations and were not disappointed. We chose to buy the "Holiday Stories" package which included passes for entrance, a guided tour of the decorations, hearty breakfasts and a $100 credit to be used at any of the various Colonial Williamsburg business. We used our credit to dine at the Kings Arm Tavern which is very special. We recommend that people consider the packages as they provide a good value for a special place.

Our room was decorated and furnished very nicely. Very tastefully done. The breakfast buffet was full of good choices. Our only disappointment was that the floor in our lodging room was very squeaky. Otherwise, this would get an excellent rate. Even so, we recommend that people stay at the Lodge. It is otherwise very nice and very convenient to the Historic District.

We are Williamsburg locals and have gone here many times over the years. We used to think this place was something special...well, as our taste and budgets have changed...it is just okay. We know the bartender, Julia, who has has been there for YEARS. Sat a table with no atmoshere, no music...NO NOTHING. Waitress service was quick and we ordered. Ordered a cherry brandy & wine....said they did not have the cherry brandy. Gave us some old nut dish...pretty bad. Came back and said they had the cherry brand. Fab. It tasted like some old liquor one had on its bar for YEARS. Pretty lame. No atmosphere and that is alot of what one pays for drinks. Oh well, it is what it is...
