“Great location and bring the dogs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

We enjoyed being in Williamsburg for a long weekend as I went to a conference at William and Mary. We like to take our two dogs wherever we can. This hotel was nearby and allowed dogs. There is dog walk areas close. They gave us a nice big room near a door. Breakfasts were good. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Looking forward to going back.

“Pleasant stay, helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

The hotel more than met our expectations! It is set back from the main road, so no road noise, but near lots of good, affordable restaurants. This was not mentioned on the hotel's website, but when we called and asked, the hotel said we could use the indoor pool at the Springhill Suites just across the shared parking lot. Residence also had a small basketball court, and the front desk has a ball you can borrow. We have had better breakfast elsewhere (the scrambled eggs seemed like from a mix?) but you can make own waffles and there are a few healthy options like boiled eggs and yogurt. The hotel does allow pets, and there were quite a few dogs when we stayed there so if you are sensitive about dog barking, you might want to mention it to the front desk. Some others have written about the "wear" and "age" but the hotel seemed fine to us. Nice, helpful staff, esp. at front reception desk. Another tip - lots of restaurant coupons at the front desk!

Room Tip: Dogs are allowed

“Family Facilities Away From Home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

While this facility is showing its age and could use a program of renovation, its location and facilities make it an ideal place for families to stay while visiting Colonial Williamsburg; a short drive puts you in the parking lot by the Visitor's Center. Within a few blocks of the Inn there is a restaurant to suit just about every taste and ethnicity. If dining out isn't your thing, the various suites have equipped kitchens and dining tables, The many combinations of rooms and beds provide a fit for just about any family's needs. And, the beds are wonderfully comfortably. Large-screen TVs are in place in the living and sleeping areas.

Staff was friendly and helpful and able to change our choice of rooms when we decided to locate on the first floor. The hot and cold breakfasts were perfectly adequate and varied from day to day. Beds were made and used toweling replaced each day without fail.

My only complaint was their policy on pets, in this case, dogs. Dogs left in the room when the owners leave to shop or eat, usually start whining and barking. This was the case on this vist when three or four dogs began loudly and incessantly barking while the owners were away. Even though the period was only an hour or two, it is most disconcerting. I did leave a note, suggesting they modify their policy to require the pets leave the room with the owners when the owners go out. Otherwise it was a very nice stay and a good value.

Room Tip: As the hallways are rather long, you may want to choose rooms near the elevators and/or the exit you...

Thank you for your great review. We're glad to see that you were able to enjoy our proximity to attractions and various local restaurants, that you found our rooms to be so suitable to your family's needs, and that our staff was so friendly and helpful. We are very sorry that your stay was disturbed by some of our four-legged guests, and we will definitely take your suggestions into consideration when we discuss our pet policy. We sincerely hope we can expect your return in the very near future.

Warmest regards,
Mark Tomlinson

“Showing wear but OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

We've stayed here a few times and had thought it was up to Marriott standards but were disappointed last weekend. The hotel is showing its age--rooms especially really need to be refreshed. The upholstery of the sofa was worn at the seams, the cushions had almost no padding left. We noticed some stains in the hallway carpeting. We'll probably give it one more try because of its close location to Colonial Williamsburg and plenty of restaurants.

“Ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

We went for Christmastown @ Busch Gardens and stayed in 1 BR Suite.

Good
-Good price (only 99 incl. all fees/taxes).
-Good Staff

Bad
-Building needs some upkeep on the outside, there were stains on a good bit of exterior walls
-Not too far from Busch Gardens (about 5-7 miles), but still a little further than we wanted
-Bathroom was dirty; were footprints all over the floor and even worse was hair on the floor and the tub. Also, the shower curtain was pretty much mildew.
-Door into suite had about a 1 inch gap at bottom, so we could pretty much hear everything when sitting out in the Living Area

I'm a Marriott Rewards Member and have stayed at more than a few Residence Inn's, but this one seemed a step down from many of the others. Can't comment on the dishes or much else b/c we only slept there, but the appearance of it (in and out) just seemed dated and a step down in class.
Honestly, my rating is only as high as it is b/c it was pretty cheap.

We're very glad that you enjoyed the value and friendly service you received from us, and we sincerely apologize for the hotel's appearance not meeting your expectations as a valued Marriott Rewards Member. We are very excited to say that we're expecting a full renovation this year, so when you return to visit Christmastown all of those concerns should be resolved. Thank you again for your time and helpful comments.
