“Will Not Return”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

We stayed at this property on a week night in December. Great location, close to both Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg. The outside of the property was clean and the inside common areas were somewhat clean and presentable. At least one of the back entrance doors, requiring a room card for access, would not properly close which presents security concerns. The Front Desk staff was friendly but were not visible until I knocked on the counter, both during check-in (approx 3:00 pm) and check-out (approx 9:00 am). The response time to acknowledge the customer was acceptable. The check-out process took 15 minutes due to a computer/printer malfunction.
The Days Inn website (http://www.daysinn.com/hotels/virginia/williamsburg/days-inn-williamsburg-colonial-historic-area/hotel-overview?hotel_id=04039&propId=DI04039&brand_id=DI&modify=false) advertises the following for this property: Free Deluxe Continental Breakfast with French toast, free coffee and fresh-baked cookies daily, outdoor pool, alarm clock in room, and more. In reality, breakfast was served in the Conference Room (temperature ~ 85 degrees) and consisted of EXTREMELY MOLDY bagels, stale English muffins, cereal (Froot Loops, Frosted Flakes and Cheerios) in bulk containers, miniature muffins, instant oatmeal, and milk and orange juice in dirty refrigerators (mildew on rubber gaskets). Neither coffee nor cookies were served during breakfast or in the lobby during our stay. We decided to have breakfast elsewhere.
We stayed in a 'King bed non-smoking room'. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable with lots of pillows, clean sheets but the comforter had stains. The room did not have an alarm clock. The bathroom was clean with plenty of towels but the shower head had mold on it and the tub floor was a little dirty.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel unless cost is your primary decision maker.

“Good for a budget”

In July we decided to stay at the Days Inn in Williamsburg and drive to Virginia Beach. The hotel although dated, was clean and neat. It was just what I had expected for $50 per night. Much better value than paying the high hotel prices at the beach. The hotel staff was very pleasant and the lobby was decorated historically. We had already been on a big vacation in June and was looking for something low in cost but clean. Williamsburg is a beautiful area to stay and the ride to the beach was a breeze. Tons of restaurants nearby and shopping outlets. We had a blast without spending a lot of money!

I was to be in the williamsburg area for the weekend of 10/08/11 and called at 11:45 a.m. and made a reservation but when I ran into prblems and couldn't make it , I called back around 1:30 p.m. to cancel the reservation and was then informed that they don't accept same day reservation cancellations , which I WAS NOT informed of when I made the reservation , the reservation was never entered into the Days Inn system according to customer service , and I was bill for the reservations even though we never stayed there .I don't understand how they can refuse to refund my money if the reservation was never entered into the Days Inn system

“Bad News”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

We have stayed here about 4yrs ago and loved it so we decided to stay again. It has really changed. The place was not clean and there were several places with paint chipping and peeling, broken tiles, light bulbs out, no mattress pad or fitted sheet on bed, etc. It really made us sad to see it go this way. The breakfast that was included was horrid compared to what it had been before. Microwaved french toast sticks were the only hot item at all and the rest was stale pastries and bagels. For a place that you can see was so pretty, its a real shame.

“Excellent service but rooms left a bit to be desired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

This hotel is way past it's heyday. At one point you could tell it was a very cute and charming place to stay in Williamsburg. It's obviously in need of some updating though. None of the ice machines worked, even checked other floors so we had to walk all the way to the lobby just for ice. The room itself smelled weird. There was no fan in the bathroom. The tv was very old and the channels were fuzzy. One reason I booked the hotel was because the windows open but there were so many cobwebs and holes in the screens that I just kept them shut. One good thing about the room was the pillows, they were soft and seemed brand new. But there was no fitted sheet on the bed, which I found strange, not to mention the bedspread just seemed gross. The heater/AC worked fine though. Last but certainly not least, the service we received was excellent. I arrived in town three hours before check-in and had no problem checking in early. We also requested a late check out which they allowed. Overall if you have a strong stomach Days Inn Historic Area is for you.
