“Saw room and immediately demanded a refund!”

Do not even think of staying here. The location is lovely but that is all this hotel has going for it. I cannot believe anyone would actually spend the night in one of these rooms. The room I was given had holes in the walls and water damage on the ceiling. Pieces of ceiling were hanging down. The towels had been used and had dirt on them. After recovering from shock, i carefully got out of there without touching anything. The man at the front desk did not at all seemed surprised when I returned demanding a refund. No questions were asked. The sad thing is that I found this hotel on the University of Virginia website. My daughter was in school there and I was visiting. UVa is such a topnotch school--it makes no sense that they would direct visitors to stay in such a disgusting hotel.

“Great location but completely run down”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

We stayed here after a section hike on the Appalachian Trail. As backpackers, we were not extremely choosy, but this place is really run down. I don't think anything has been repaired or updated in 20 years or more. The rooms available still are the ones that still have working plumbing. Carpets and furniture threadbare. The restaurant and pool are closed. If we had a vehicle we would have gone somewhere else, but we had backpacked 14 miles that day and were too tired to go further. The views are beautiful, but the place needs a complete renovation.

Do not stay here. Awful price for an awful hotel. We got stuck here due to bad weather, and now I wish we had risked another half hour in the intense fog and rain to find anything else! Filth, Dirt, Ew.

Beautiful Americana from a bygone age. Essential essence. Mountaintop fog and views surpassing any hotel anywhere. Lush surroundings. Sacred. Zen residence.

“Did you see the movie "Psycho"?”

We did not stay here. A relative of ours booked a room here to attend our daughter's graduation. He didn't stay here either. It was too disgusting. Fortunately, we had an extra bed in our condo and he stayed with us. You can see it from the highway. My husband and I thought it was some abandoned government building. Need I say more?
