I was visiting family in the area and stayed here for a week. My experience was positive in every way, with the exception of that eternal hotel problem, thin walls. I'm sensitive to noise, and being able to hear other rooms or hallway noises bothers me, and I had asked for a quiet room. Even so, there was more noise than I would have liked. Thank heavens my neighbors weren't raucous or 2 AM TV watchers, as I could hear TV or conversation bleed through the walls. Everything else about the property was great-- decor was pleasing, layout and size of my efficiency was good (I love that the bed & bath are angled off from the kitchen/sitting area). Full kitchenette was a wonderful thing to have. There was an ipod dock--yay! --and plenty of outlets and good lighting! The hairdryer was powerful enough to dry my hair, not wambly like many hotel models. The entire property was attractive, neat, clean, and well-kept. I loved having an indoor pool and jacuzzi in the winter. The daily breakfast was quite adequate, even for my gluten-free diet, and staff couldn't have been more helpful or courteous. The hotel information booklet says they will even grocery shop for you at no extra charge... .
I grew up in the area, so I know my way around, but the location (just off I64 & a few miles west of the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline) is convenient for anyone either doing business in the area or sightseeing. There are several chain restaurants, a new mexican restaurant, and lots of "middle america" shopping right there (super-Wal-Mart, higher-end grocery--Martin's, Target, Home Depot, Kohls, Starbucks, Lowes, etc.), as well as many other smaller businesses like banks, jewelry stores, carwash, nail place, etc. Even though the "stripmall" surroundings aren't visually arresting, the view of the Blue Ridge is eye-popping.
I think this hotel is a very good value, and would recommend. I would stay here again. If you're more sensitive to noise, like me, book directly with the hotel and ask for the quietest possible room, but still come prepared to experience some neighborly buzz if you're next to or across from people talking or watching TV--I wonder if this isn't pretty common in moderately priced hotels. I love that there is a comfortable, affordable, and NICE hotel where I can stay when I come home to visit--and one that's close enough to my family so I don't have to travel miles to get to their house.
Room Tip: Book directly w/the hotel and ask for a quiet room (which I did). Third floor (top) is probably less...
