came to virgina beach on our first date. it was my first time in virginia period. stayed at the marjac and loved it. planning on staying here for a month. the ocean is beautiful. and the room is like a small apartment. comming from Balimore the noise isnt a problem to me. i dont think i heard none at all. it was nice for a first time. would recommend it to everyone. the elevator isnt a problem dont like being bunched up with alot of people anyway. omg the view is beautiful. i actually love this place and look forward to staying here again.

Room Tip: here is a tip dont expect the living conditions of your home when your staying else where and you wi...

“Wonderful, with one major flaw”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

We stayed one night with two small kids in the off season. The location was terrific, right on the beach, watching the waves from the balcony, even rented bikes right on property. The rooms are okay, typical hotel fare, the kitchen counters have been updated but not the appliances. The shower is amazingly strong (too strong?) so no lack of water pressure there, and yes the tub is slow to drain but that happens, nothing we get flustered over. The bright spot was Janet the desk clerk who was very professional, kind and helpful.
Now the flaw that would give us pause to stay again....the hotel is in the nightclub district and maybe it was just because it was a Sat. night but the noise level and especially the bass from the clubs was sickening annoying and lasted until 2 am and then the screaming and door slamming started (some of the revelers must have been staying at Marjac). The bedrooms on the street side and we did not sleep until almost 4 am, really it was impossible even with earplugs due to the bass levels. I swear my heart was palpitating, it was like torture. This is sad since obviously this is a VA beach problem, not the hotel's problem.
So I do recommend the hotel but just know that you may not sleep well.

Room Tip: all bedrooms are on street side, so maybe consider sleeping on the pull out in the living room where...

“don't have high expectations and you won't be disappointed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

I stayed here a few years ago and decided to give it another try. It's not the fanciest place on Atlantic Avenue but what it lacks in amenties is made up for by it's location and staff.

The building is showing signs of wear and tear but that's inevitable given it's location right on the ocean. Rooms are spacious with a full ceiling to floor vista of the ocean from the living room (which also includes fridge, coffee-maker, 4 hob stove, oven, microwave and kitchen utensils.

Both bedroom and living area have tv's and direct dial telephone. I found the Marjac to be much quieter than last time I stayed here - due to the closure of a number of bars on the strip - which was a welcome bonus.

Staff are courteous and friendly and nothing is too much bother for them. Parking is restricted to one parking space per room and yes the lobby is small and yes the elevator is slow but who cares - you are on vacation !

Yes the pool is in the parking lot but it is shaded by trees but who really needs the pool when the ocean is steps away? I particularly enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching the boardwalk while having my morning coffee. All balconies are overlooking the ocean and get the sun til mid-day.

All in all I had a very relaxing vacation and while it would not be everyone's choice, I enjoyed it as much as I did previously.

“Don't believe everything you read”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

After reading the reviews on the Marjac Suite we were reluctant to stay but being on a budget and needing a getaway in the worst way we packed up the lysol and away we went with no expectations. Reviews had mentioned that the lobby wasn't large, what do you need a large lobby for? They are right it isn't spacious but plenty of room to do what needs to be done. Elevator complaints on several reviews so we were expecting that and although it was slow we never had any issues during our stay and if we didn't want to wait we walked the stairs afterall its only 7 floors total. Our housekeeper was the same our entire stay which was nice she greeted us each morning and asked if there were any requests for the day. The front desk staff were very helpful when we needed to print from our computer they accomodated our needs very willingly. The room is dated, however it was clean and we didn't feel the need for our lysol (lol). The bedroom was alot smaller then we had anticipated but how much room do you need to sleep. The bathroom definetly could use a facelift but given the age of the room it was very clean. Location was great we never moved our car all week. Was never concerned with safety, staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Hotel is aged but maintained, for the price and location will definetly stay again...this isn't a high end hotel but plenty nice for a place to sleep and relax.

Room Tip: We booked our room directly with the hotel and got a better deal

“Don't make the same mistake our family did....dirty, dirty, dirty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

You get what you pay for....our room was dirty, the maid service was horrible, we need extra towels and called the desk, we never reiceved the towels. The maids expected tips after the horrible service. The front desk was harldy ever answered. The toilet did not flush properly and ran the whole time. The TV's were old and the controls filthy as was the light fictures and bedroom window. Missing light bulbs in the bathroom. The dining chairs were broke. The shower leaked. The hotel was loud and lots of profanity at night....all night long. We did not get sleep at all at night. We could not enjoy the balcony as the noise to the buildings fan was soooo loud. I would not reccomend this hotel to anyone!!!!!! Awful!!! Only one elevator which broke down 3 times during our stay!!! So happy to be home, will not miss the Marjac-Don't make the same mistake our family did...dirty, dirty, dirty!!!!
