“NIGHTMARE ON ALANTIC AVENUE!!!!!!!!!!!!”

My husband and I just got home from Va beach. We stayed at the diplomat and it was horrible. First, the parking is ridiulous and we had to go across the street and pay 10.00 to park. The staff did not explain that you had to buy an access card from them to get your money back. My husband showed them the receipt and had words with the owners son trying to get refunded. He was very rude and so was the staff. It wasnt about the money that bothered us because we have money and live comfortable.,It was the principal of the situation for they knew we had to pay to park.... Finally the next day the owners son refunded the money but wasnt nice. The next night the air conditioning was messed up and they refused to refund our money so we could go somewhere else...and it was HOT.. Va beach was under a heat advisory with temps at 103... When we asked the staff for refund because it was too hot the girl at the desk rolled her eyes and said we dont give refunds unless you give a 72 hour notice!!! We ended up just leaving and coming home a day sooner and the diplomat ended up with our nights pay.. They could care less about their customers and I believe they make up the rules as they go!!!! My next step is reporting them to the Better Business Bureau..This place needs shut down! Its outdated and being runned by complete idiots... I will never stay here again... The owners previously were awesome and understood their customers.. We use to go there every year but hadnt for the last 4 years because my husband was sick and never dreamed the diplomat had turned into a living nightmare and it was just That.. Please listen to what your reading about this place because its horrible... I would rather pay a little more than to be done the way we were done.. Enough said for I could go on and on... A NIGHTMARE ON ALANTIC AVENUE....

“Desperately needs renovation”

Beds were uncomfortable. Sheets and pillows felt shady. Everything felt unsanitary and old. Elevators were the slowest and smallest I've ever been on. Our room didn't even have it's own microwave. Staff was friendly and the balcony was nice and big but definitely not staying here again. This motel needs some major updates/renovations.

“You have been warned!”

Sign out front advertised rooms at $49.00/night or $199.00/week. I was looking for a place to de-stress for a week, so I signed up for the week deal. I paid the bill with my debit card but they would not accept any credit cards for the security deposit. They had to have $100.00 cash. This raised a red flag, so I asked the desk clerk how I could be assured that I would get my money back when I checked out. She assured me that the cash deposit was only to assure that I returned the key and at that time they would refund my money. She placed the cash in an envelope with a picture of my drivers license photocopied onto the envelope and said it would be kept in a safe until I checked out. At checkout, the desk clerk (a different girl) refused to return my cash deposit. She said they would mail me a check. I told her I was not leaving until I was refunded my $100.00. So she called the owner at home. I spoke with him and he was rather rude over the phone. He said the room had to be inspected first and then they would mail me a refund. I told him I was calling the police. He replied that I must not have read the papers I signed when I checked in. He was correct - I did not read it. So I read it while I had him on the phone. The paper I signed stated that I had to give 24 hours notice before I checked out? WTF? When I checked in to the hotel, I paid for one week - that was 7 days notice!!!!!!!!!!! He finally agreed to come in and inspect the room - in an hour or two. So I told him I would go out to eat breakfast but that I expected my cash to be waiting for me when I returned. I returned about 90 minutes later and the owner was there. He was pleasant in person and returned my money. All the staff treated me with respect during my stay but I would sleep on the sidewalk before I stayed at this place again. The only good thing about this place was the location directly on the beach. If you do stay here, read every single word of the papers they ask you to sign - don't take their verbal word on anything. I would bet many customers have lost their deposit at this place. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels but this is the first one that asked for a cash key deposit. ANd the walls are paper thin - you can hear the people breathing in the next room. And the swimming pool? I would not let my dog take a dip in it.

“CHEAP OCEANFRONT”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2009

Don't use the elevator, it's really old and scary. The staff was very helpful and friendly, fun. The rooms are old, but it is oceanfront. Nice pool. Toilet kept breaking down, they came to fix it three times. Not that bad for the price and location.
