My friend got our room on Orbitz for $116.00 per night. The front desk tried to up our room charge on the weekend nights to over $130.00. We wouldn't have it! We had some of the same problems as an earlier guest in a different room... we were in 415. The door to the room stuck. The big green heavy door to the balcony stuck. The room never did get cool. We were there when Hurricane Ophelia blew through. VA Beach didn't get much rain, but it *was* humid. The air conditioner was not working properly and everything was just damp. Your bath towel didn't dry if you showered at night and hung it up for morning. Papers left out on the desk were damp, etc. The carpet was dirty and damp. The bathroom - especially the shower and shower curtain were dirty. I have no idea when the last time they changed the blanket and bedspread... yuck! The drawers in the unit where the TV is kept completely fell apart and wouldn't close. And they had no Do Not Disturb signs so the one morning I wanted to sleep in didn't happen because housekeeping came banging on the door!

This could be a really nice place with some TLC. I had the chance to see the rooms at the Courtyard Marriott down the street (at N. 37th Street) and they were so much nicer... I would stay there instead as the rates seem to be comparable!

ITS A GOOD THING ITS COMING DOWN IN A MONTH!....and you gotta LOVE the double parking...AND closet size elevators...??? The Dunes has gone down hill...but other than that.. for the short time we were there it served its purpose for the most affordable hotel on the beach...

Upon arrival, I must admit the exterior of the Dunes looked a little sketchy, but once in my room, I was pleased with its cleanliness and appearance. The staff was friendly and even let me check in 5 hours early. This was very important considering it took me 10 hours to drive to Virginia. I cannot speak for the other rooms in the Hotel, but I stayed in a Deluxe room and was very happy with my stay. The most important feature of this Hotel is the location.

We just got back (Aug 22, 2005). This is in no way a 3 star hotel. The rooms were very ordinary and the carpet was old and torn. I had to slam the door (an I mean real hard) to close it. The bathroom is very small and cramped. Beds were clean though (some relief). One good thing about this hotel is that every room has a refrigerator and a microwave, which comes very handy if you have small kids.

Overall, the rooms and hotel had all the basic amenities (no restaurant though) but everything was old, worn out and used.
