“Excellent Overnight Trip”

We were in Hampton Roads for the night to visit with friends. Since we have not gotten to the beach in 2 years, thought it would be nice to spend a night at a hotel on the beach. Picked the Holiday Inn North Beach due to it being a Holiday Inn and the Indoor Lazy River. Upon check in the staff was very courteous and offered Valet Parking. We had already parked our car in the garage across the street. We stayed in a 2 queen bed suite. The suite was very clean upon arrival. The beds were very comfortable. I liked how you could shut the door to the bedroom and also shut the door to the living room area, and have privacy in the sink/bathroom area. We are a family with 3 children. It was nice for the children to be able to sit out in the living room and relax and watch cartoons before bed time. Two of my children slept on the sleeper sofa. Sleeper sofa seemed very comfortable. I sat on it one time. Seemed much better then other sleeper sofas I have sat on while they were pulled out. The only complaint that I would have which did not effect our trip at hall is the heater unit is a bit loud when it runs. Once of the queen beds in right next to the unit which is located inside a wall. The tempature in the room was fine. Nice balcony overlooking the ocean. Saw a gorgeous sunset in the morning. One other complaint. The deadbolt lock for the door to the patio should be put a little higher up. My 3yo was able to pull the desk chair over and stand on that and open the patio door. Since our children are never unattended it was not a big deal, but would of been nice if the lock was higher so no children could unlock the door.
The lazy river was very clean. Kids had a blast swimming. Other guests had left behind their inner tubes and other items so the guests that were in the pool area that night at the same time as us used them and offered to share with my children. Pool towels are a bit small. Need to remember to bring flip flops or other shoes next time. Walk from pool to room was a bit far and hallways can be slippery if feet are not completely dry.

Room Tip: corner suites are large. rooms over looking the beach provide a wonderful view.

Previously I was staying in Norfolk for my meetings until I had the opportunity to stay in this hotel and I have to said that since the climate gets the attention and service is great and I know the team at the reception which I left in shock the last time I stayed because the shift supervisor know that I am a frequent a lot of the hotel and he sent me to a room a small amenitie with a thank you card for staying with us, he is a very professional staff, he is a latino boy and he is service oriented it employee.

“Perfect Weekend Trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

My boyfriend is a Firefighter/EMT and had to work both Christmas and New Years Eve, so we decided to make up for it with a weekend getaway to the beach - we figured it would be pretty quiet and a little less expensive to go during the off-season, making it a perfect time to relax and just enjoy ourselves. Thanks to the Holiday Inn staff, we were able to do just that! By booking our hotel directly through the hotel's website, we got a great rate for both nights (a Friday and Saturday) and though I'd requested early check-in on our reservation, we ended up arriving after 4pm due to traffic, so it wasn't necessary anyway. Edmund was at the desk when we arrived to check in, and when we told him why we were visiting, he upgraded our room from an Oceanfront King room to an Oceanfront King Suite, which was just perfect! The suite was very spacious, nicely decorated and clean, and the view of the ocean from our balconies (one in the living room and a separate balcony off of the bedroom) was awesome. Although it was January, the weather was in the mid- to high-60s and sunny all weekend, which was great for just sitting out there and watching the waves crash in and people on the beach and boardwalk. My only regret was that we didn't take advantage of all of the amenities the hotel had to offer - I wish we had used the "state-of-the-art gym" and movie theater, but of course, the weekend is never enough time to experience it all. Also, the hotel offers free valet parking, which we did take advantage of upon checking in, but the parking lot is conveniently located right across the street. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and we would absolutely come back again!

“Great Thanksgiving getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We checked in on Thanksgiving Day which most people working would rather be home with their families but Butch @ the front desk welcomed us & was very helpful with our transition. A member of the staff had called just after we booked our reservation 1-2 wks prior & let us know about a dinner @ the Sheraton Hotel. We really appreciated the fact they took the time to make an added call & let us know since there weren't many places open on Thanksgiving or were already booked up. We literally walked to our dinner along the beach which was quite a treat from wintery upstate NY! The buffet was wonderful & nice to have a variety to choose from as well as not cooking that day!
We had a suite for our family of 4 which everyone including our 2 teenagers that were reallly impressed with the modern updates & found very clean. Both the living room & bedroom had a balcony with beautiful views of the ocean. It was actually nice not having a breakfast included so we could explore neat venues recommened by local residents. We really enjoyed being able to walk to Pocahontas Pancake place one morning & Perked Up the next- a neat litle coffee shop with bagels, pastries & quiche. Both were excellant! .

Room Tip: Delux suites with balconies in both rooms facing the ocean are great!

Stayed here the first week in December,,,,Wonderful stay , they have a movie theater, free kids camp, indoor and outdoor pool, 2 wonderful rest, one overlooking the ocean on the 6th floor. They have valet parking which is directly across the street....It was at very beginning of the beach and i wish it was near the middle of all the action but it is perfect if you have children, so many activities for them...Also newly renovated this year... beautiful property
