“Would love to recommend...but can't.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Let me start with the good. This hotel is in a fabulous location, since the shuttle will take you anywhere within a 5 mile radius. Within that radius, there is the airport, a great movie theater, and a Cheesecake Factory, located at the Town Center, which is a nice 2 or 3 block center of shopping and dining. I don't know about the experiences others had, but the staff was above board friendly. Everyone was great and promptly responded to our requests. The hotel itself is lovely. Nice, fresh, modern look. Well, unfortunately, we discovered hygienic issues...in two different rooms. The sheets on our bed had been carefully placed so as to keep one from noticing--unless you pulled the covers back, which we did the next day--that there were several blood stains. No crew could have missed the stains while making the bed...this was purposely hidden. Only God knows why. My parents came to stay as well, and when my dad went to get in his shower, he discovered a used washcloth hanging from the shower rod and hair on the shower wall. Crazy, considering the tub was sparkling. The beds were ok. If you like the plushness of a Marriott bed, this isn't the hotel. But we slept comfortably for those 3 nights. Oh yes, I have to mention, be sure to ask for a room that does NOT face the lobby. The voices from anyone down there carry all the way to the top. It's loud and distracting. The A/C is a wall unit, so of course it will not be nice and quiet like central A/C. It didn't bother me or my husband (the lobby noise was way worse), but my dad said it sounded like a train. To each his own. I HAVE TO SAY, Dawn Blanchard, the manager accommodated us well. As I told her, I would love to recommend this hotel, but I can't, given the things we discovered. Plus, they don't have a breakfast buffet, and the restaurant is...ok. Denny's is right up the street. The things I'm complaining about are fixable, and take the hotel down at least 2 stars.

Room Tip: Ask for fresh sheets and a room facing away from the lobby.

Thank you for your feedback during your recent stay with us. I have also spoken with the housekeeping manager at the time that you were a guest of the hotel, and we do apologize for the oversight of the washcloth being left in your room upon check in. The concern about the soiled sheets was also directed toward our housekeeping manager, since the stains on the sheet werent reported to the staff until the next morning and the fact that the sheets had already been slept on it is hard to determine if in fact the stain was on the sheet prior to your arrival. We did confirm that the stain was not blood as was suggested. But the fact remains that your room should have been ready for your arrival and spotless. We do apologize for falling short and this will not happen in the future.

“These pictures will fool you.”

First off , pictures clearly show flat screen tv's mounted on the wall of the rooms, not so.
The person working in the lobby when I arrived, acted like she did not want to be at work or to check people in, very unfriendly.
The air conditioner sounded like a truck, seriously, so we turned it off, at 2am we could cleary hear the guest ac unit next door that sounded the same way. The hotel had to know this because there is another review up here with that same complaint.

The hot tub was not working.
Also, the beds, well if you like feeling like you are going to sink to the floor, you'll be happy.
Now the shower and tub and sink was as the picture and very nice. the lobby and bar were very nice.

A few more bucks and it would be a nice place to stay but with the ac noise, the unsupportive bed, I would not suggest this hotel at $100 a night.

I apologize to you that we fell short of your expectations during your stay with us, and I have spoken with this guest personally and I have verified on our website and our the televisions that we have in our lobby area that the only flat screen television that is mounted on the wall is in our Presidential Suite, all other flat screen tv's are on a stand in each guest room.
Due to the issues that you have had during your stay and even though you were not happy with our beds in the rooms and the loudness of the ac units I did offer for you to stay with us for one night, which you did accept. So I do hope that when you come back to visit that your visit will go above your expectations and we will strive to make sure that is does. Our Hot Tub is down for renovation, and should be back in operation within a few weeks.
It is so important for guests to let us know what is falling short with your stay while you are with us, we want to know, we want the opprotunity to fix any situation before any guests leaves our hotel. Thank You

“Another great visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

I've been visiting the Norfolk area for years on business and found this place a few years back. It's a terrific place to stay, very customer oriented. The facility has been recently remodeled, and it won the InterContinental Hotels Renovation of the Year Award for their fantastic upgrade.

They treat their Priority Club members very well. I was automatically upgraded to a suite, and they give a daily certificate good for discounts in the restaurant and bars at the hotel.

The location is right at the intersection of Interstates 64 and 264, so it provides easy access to both Norfolk and Virginia Beach downtown areas.

“I thought this was a hotel, not a nightclub!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011 via mobile

Don't be fooled by the nice lobby setup. Although the staff was nice, the condition of the hotel does not warrant the price! Room setup is average, nothing special. Once evening begins, all serenity goes out the window!! Every night during my stay there were loud parties in the conference room after midnight. Even the loud air conditioners in my room could not drown out the sound. As a paying customer, I felt very inconvenienced. I would have been better off sleeping in my car. Never again will I waste my money on this hotel. General manager, please install sound proof doors to your conference area if you would like to transition this place into a nightclub!

Your recent review is appreciated and we thank you for staying with us. The month of December is full of Holiday Parties and during the time of your visit we had a holiday party on both nights. I apologize for the level of noise and that you had room issues during your stay. If the hotel was made aware of your concerns during your visit we would have corrected the problem to make sure the remainder of your visit was a pleasant one.
Thank you again for your feedback and it will be used to make improvements.

“High School Reunion”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Administration was the main problem. After I booked the reservation, the next time I went in, they had the reservation date wrong. My contract had someone else's address and phone number on it. They changed the location of the conference rooms we booked without notifying us. When I arrived, the refrigerator was not working but they did send someone to correct that problem right away. We had members of our group call BEFORE our registration deadline that were told there were no rooms available and yet our rooms had not been filled. They were the lucky ones, they stayed someplace else. They told me to fill up the coffee pot in the hospitality room with water from the restroom. I had thirteen complaints about the beef dinner out of thirty four plates ordered. The other food was OK. Several of the people in my party complained to me about the noise level while they were trying to sleep. There was loud music playing and there were children running up and down the hallways and administration did nothing about it when it was brought to their attention. I wrote the general manager a few days after the reunion to complain about our experience and he has not yet responded. The catering manager called and told me that they had never had anyone complain about the beef before. She indicated that my complaints were unfounded. The beef was tough, gristled, and fatty, so make your own opinion. We were at this same hotel five years ago for our reunion and did not have these issues which is why we chose to go to this hotel again. But after this experience, several people in our party have requested that we do not book our reunions at this hotel in the future.

First I would like to apologize to you for the issues that you had during your reunion. I would like to be able to talk to you personally about your issues as well. That is not our level of service and we take your concerns very seriousily.
I will speak with the General Manager about the letter that you stated you sent to him to make sure that he did recieve it and that it is addressed.
Again, I so apologize, and would welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your visit.
