“Unfortunately in need of a good clean and an update. Never four star.”

We chose this B&B due to its award winning status on the web but having stayed I cannot imagine what the award could be for. On entering the small hallway with the well worn carpet and air of dust the lack of attention became apparent and this was continued throughout and into the rooms. The bed was very comfortable but there was no mattress cover to protect it. There was dust on the skirting boards, doorframes, bedframe and the curtains looked dirty. The carpets were in need of a change and the tiles in the bathroom by the toilet were grimmy, the mirror looked as if someone had flossed their teeth but it hadn't been cleaned. There was no where to hang the small towel provided which wasn't changed in our four day stay.
There was plenty of tea and coffee supplied but no herbals in the room. The kettle wouldn't fit under the tap in the bathroom so getting water into it was difficult.

The loction is good, near some fantastic walks although a good 15min walk into the town. The pub at the end of the road serves excellent food. Unfortunately this B&B needs a serious overhaul to provide adequate clean and well serviced rooms to paying guests.

“Quiet and cozy - great breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2010

Stayed 2 nights Nov. 2009. Nice room overlooking the lake, quiet and relaxing. Highlight was the fantastic breakfast - order the 'light' version if you're not a big breakfast person!! Very friendly & pleasant staff. If you plan to sit in your room watching TV missing out on everything around you, try somewhere else (small TV, very few channels).

Couldn't get internet access to work - the manager was very helpful and very nice, but couldn't contact the owner to fix the issue. Minor inconvenience since this was the end of my business trip. Bathroom was very very small, but to be expected. Shower had just a trickle of water - manager noted and apologized so hopefully they found the issue and fixed it.

Had great fish & chips from the shop next door, unfortunately didn't get chance to visit the local pubs. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

“Fantastic!! Get booked!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2009

We have been there twice now and are booking for our third visit this year. It is lovely quaint little b&b and the service is second to none. The breakfasts are huge and very filling. We have now made it a habit to stay there on our way to Liverpool airport and start our holiday a day early by fishing in the region and staying at Swing Cottage. It sets us up for a good days travelling and we always leave there feeling very relaxed and in the holiday mood. There is everything you need on your doorstep but with a lovely rural feel. I love the tea rooms and craft shop attached, give it a really nice atmosphere! Swing cottage will always have a place in our hearts as this is where I proposed to my husband and we will always continue to go back. I would recommend this b&b to anyone and everyone.

what a absolutely fantastic little bed and breakfast, overlooking hollingworth lake.we stayed 3 nights,we had a room overlooking the lake,a spacious double room, was cleaned everyday it was spotless, and the bedsheets changed as well,we were only there 3 days.the room had tea and coffee making facilities, refiiled everyday, complimentary sweets, and 2 bottles of water on arrival.also had a tv,and en suite, also 2 double windows to look out of.the breakfast was a huge full english egg, sausage bacon, black pudding, mushrooms, beans, or you could ask for something light ,scrambled egg and toast, you also got cereals, juices, and tea and coffee.the staff at the b and b were so helpful, and very friendly.there's 2 pubs within walking distance, both serving food,a chipshop which we tried and it was very nice, and several little restaurants, the b and b also has a lovely tea rooms and a craft shop. we went out on a boat called lady alice it cost £6, for a family of 4,it takes you 20mins round the lake.there's also parking at the side of the hotel.what a beautiful place hollingworth lake is,reminds me of the lake district, the room was£50 a night for 2 adults, i think the family rooms are£65.i looked at 3 rooms there and they were all spacious, clean and fresh, the hotel has 4 rooms,we will be returning again soon sometime in the winter, what a peaceful quiet hotel i cant rate it enough
