Like many people who stay here, it was convenience that brought us, my flight having landed in Bristol too late for the onward road journey we had planned. We were not desperate enough to accept the Holiday Inn, officially recommended by the airport, but the kind desk girl told us about the Plush Hotel. A phone call secured a room and dinner even though it was nine p.m. The GPS located the place easily and we were welcomed by a friendly Polish receptionist. We went straight in to dinner, and were offered a complimentary drink. I ordered salmon, and asked for it to be very lightly cooked. Wife asked who did the cooking, and was told it was also a Pole, so she chose the goulash of course!
The salmon was OK but overcooked for my taste. All the rest was fine and the service friendly and quick. After the meal, when prompted, I mentioned that the salmon was hardly lightly cooked, and the receptionist/waitress apologised and asked me if I would like something else to compensate, or a discount on the price. I declined either of course, because it was all done so nicely!
The room was perfectly comfortable, large and surprisingly quiet for being on the main road. When I switched on the bathroom light, it was accompanied by the very loud and relentless noise of the fan, which I hate with a vengeance. I pulled a red cord on the ceiling which looked as though it would turn off the fan, but alas, it set off the alarm, which I was unable to stop. A call to reception brought a nice man a minute later, who solved the problem (but not the fan noise!). The bathroom was fine, but as someone else pointed out, the shower has no protection, and so everything, including the loo, gets soaked.
Breakfast the next morning was OK but unexciting - nothing cooked. It may have been on request, but I didn't ask. Waitress and reception were represented by the other Polish girl, the one who does the cooking, and she asked how her goulash went down. All in all, these Polish girls were delightful, attentive and friendly - no wonder the hotel employs them.
We noticed a luxurious-looking covered swimming pool on the way to the (free) car park, and regretted that we were not in a situation to enjoy the other amenities the hotel had to offer. The sign at the entrance to the property boasts that it is "a fabulous place to stay". Well, we had a perfectly good time, and if ever were stuck around Bristol airport again, wouldn't hesitate to return. But for all that, I don't think I'd book my holidays there...
