We went to England for a wedding and needed somewhere close by to stay for one night. Two rooms, one for my husband and myself and a second room for our daughter, her husband and 3 year old daughter. I had stayed there once before in 1973 when I got married and it was a nice hotel, how things change!!
The hotel smelt of cigarette smoke.
Some staff spoke good English, others were very difficult to understand.
My daughters room had a filthy lamp, the bathroom extractor fan was so noisy she didn't like to use it. Damp patches on the ceiling which had two different kinds of wallpaper.
No shampoo or shower gel, just one tiny bar of soap.
No hair drier in the room, but I asked for one in reception, only to discover the wire wasn't long enough to get to the mirror in the bathroom, have you ever tried to style your hair with no mirror??
In our room there was a terrible smell coming from the sink, obviously the U bend needed cleaning out. No pressure on the water, so the toilet didn't flush properly.
Net curtains filthy and smelt, also torn and with cigarette burns.
My daughter returned early from the wedding with her young daughter, and was terrified as there was a lot of shouting and slamming of doors.
We returned around 1130 pm, there was a girl, I can only presume a staff member, sitting on the stairs. We had to climb over her, she didn't move, but did say sorry.
We hadn't been in the room long when door banging started. I don't know what was going on, but we propped a chair under the handle of the door, to be sure we didn't get any intruders. We didn't get much sleep, each time I started to drop off, so the door banging would start again.
Also in our room, the bed was up against the heating, so I don't know what happens when the heating has to be turned on when it gets cold, I can only presume that the sheets get scorched!!!!!
I did ask in reception the next morning what was happening, and the receptionist said he would mention it to the staff. I can only presume that staff sleep there, and they were the causing the disturbance, but I don't know about that.
The hotel advertises the best breakfast in town, well, I would hate to taste the worst. The lady in the breakfast room was very difficult to understand, in fact she spoke to us and then we all asked each other what she had said. There was something about the plates being hot, but they were actually cold. The breakfast was in those keep warm containers, but obviously they didn't work properly either, the breakfast was almost cold. There were also tinned mushrooms floating in sop, and tinned tomatoes. I had two bites of my breakfast, left the rest, nibbled on the cold toast, and was thoroughly fed up, at the expense of staying at this dump, there are no other words for it, it has been totally let go.
I think it has become a hotel for down and outs as when we arrived there was also so problem, the chamber maids were trying to get some one out of their room. he stood in the hall in his underpants, and then went back in the room, and the girls kept knocking and telling him it was time to leave, they were obviously having problems with him, and is was scary to know there were people like that in the hotel.
I can only say I will never go there again, and wouldn't stay there even if I was paid to do so.
