“Living social deal- unimpressed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Not a good location- we came to this hotel expecting something to do around it, but there is nothing around except for residential homes and a motorway very close by. The living social deal meant that we were in a very small room in the modern extension- a room which was not on the website and was very disappointing.
The food at the restaurant was also terrible- the brie tart had no brie in it and was burnt. The steak was ok, but when we asked for extra chips these were frozen. We had to pay a subsidised rate for the steak meal which was the only decent thing on the extremely limited menu (and also very over priced). Should someone want to go out for a meal there is no where near by, so one is a bit stuck and has to eat there.
Bar service was terribly slow, and even asking for matches meant we were waiting for 15 minutes.
Staff were friendly, and main building looked lovely but overall a waste of money and time.
Would never recommend this to go to for the weekend- we left a day early.

Room Tip: Pay through the nose for an upgrade

Thank you for taking your time to share your experience at The Edgwarebury Hotel.
The hotel does have a semi-rural location, indeed the hotel itself is set in 10 acres of its own land, you view that there is nothing in the surrounding area is beyond the hotels control, although Watford town centre is a short drive & London can be accessed from the local train station without issue.
In regard to your comments about food I would like to offer sincere apologies, we will soon be re-launching the Cavendish restaurant menu offering both A la Carte & Table d'ôte options.
You comments about bar service are disappointing but without specific circumstances it is impossible to comment as to why there was a lengthy delay.
If you ever need a short-break in quiet hotel then i am sure we would be able to accommodate you.

“AWFUL!!!!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I have stayed in the hotel a couple times as its close to where im attending etc.

But the place just gets worse and worse!!!!!!

The night staff are awfull, rude and not helpful in the slightest!
All the fouriture is old!!! your lucky to get all 5 main channels on your tv!
The walls are very thin and your hear someone cough in the next room.
Room service is limited... i mean your lucky to get a cheese sandwhich after 11pm!!!

So we checked in last Friday for 1 night, I sat on the bed and it BROKE!!! The wheels completley snapped!!!! As it was around 10pm a man came just to put a bucket under it!?!!
but the hotel was full so couldnt move!!! so i spent my entire evening on the floor!!!!

I refused to pay on check out and they said a manager would contact me on the Monday! did he?! NO! I then called and they said he would contact me and never did! i waited 4 days when i got a letter from him saying I broke the bed and everything was fine before i checked in and housekeeping check all the rooms before anyone checks in! Not sure how they would check the bed without sitting on it though tbh?! In the letter it says they wouldnt charge me for me breaking the bed?!

I called the manager James Mahaffey who was very unhelpful and not accomdating!!! He kept saying it was my fault the bed broke as it was fine beforehand! I told him i sat on it! but he was having none of it! he seemed to think it was my fault!!! He said housekeeping check everything when doing the sheets! im not sure how? as he mentioned they pull the bed out for the sheets and it was fine! Maybe if they sat on it, it would be a different story!
But i guess he thinks i enjoyed sleeping on the floor?!

He had already charged the card for our room for 1 night! he said he was not willing to refund it but may possibly think of a SMALL discount!?!

In the letter he also had a moan for eating a takeway pizza and not using the resturant! Which on the phone i also told him that the resturant doesnt stay open late and they are very limited on room service food! and if guests want to have a takeway what right does he have to say otherwise?!

I only good thing about the place is where it is located!
as everything else is vile and disgusting!!!!!

Ive never been anywhere to be treated so bad!!!
Its just vile! im so angry with how ive been treated and angry as to why i should pay!!!

VILE.VILE.VILE

I wouldnt reccomend anyone to stay there!!!!!!!

Room Tip: I wouldnt reccomend staying there! Location is nice, but thats it! Unless you like sleeping on the...

“levy's review”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

the service is poor, the hotel isn't clean,, the beds are hard, the pillows are the worst you will ever see in a hotel and the staff are economical with the truth. Weekends are usually being used for weddings which are normally very noisy and rowdy.
The main restaurant has no atmosphere and the food is very ordinary and expensive.

Room Tip: do not stay in the main house, you won't get a wink of sleep, the pipes are banging all night

“Agreat new year”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

A large group of us, both family and friends booked the new years eve package at this hotel, and what great value it was, the building and lobby areas are lovely with a lot of original features, check in was quick smooth and very friendly. the rooms were fairly large and did the job although i have to say we found the bed too soft and not very comfortable.
We had a large table in a kind of private dining area, although it was vey busy the service was very good and the 7 course meal was excellent considering they were catering for so many people. After the meal we went downstairs to the "Disco" where there was also a very nice buffet set up, we had a really lovely evening.
Breakfast the next morning was also faultless, the variety was great, and once again full marks to the staff.
So all in all we all agreed it had been a great evening and would certainly return.
Amazing value for money.

“Excellent Christmas Dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Christmas Dinner for our Reading Club.
The food and wine were excellent, the service cheerful and polite.
We were a group of 12 and had a separate dining room which made it very intimate.
Great food and wine for a Christmas dinner in a charming Tudor style traditional hotel.
What more can you want?
