“First hotel stay for our grandchildren!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

This was our grandchildren's first hotel stay and it sort of lived up to their expectations although they spent a while wondering where the kitchen was! We paid extra for a "Themed room" and an initial booking error on the hotels part was quickly sorted at check-in. As it was a bitterly cold weekend and our room was at the end we did have to ask for extra duvets as the ones provided for the children were very thin and the tented area for them is the coldest part of the room. My only comments (not criticisms) are constructive ones and that for a hotel where 50% of guests are probably children some childrens size cutlery would be fantastic as I saw lots struggling with huge knives and forks and also a few more child friendly dishes for the younger ones would have been helpful. Our food and the breakfasts were very good and the swimmimg pool was kept clean even when very busy. All in all a good first experiance for them & us oldies!

Room Tip: If a wedding reception is booked the evening reception noise travels to all floors so ask for a qui...

Thank you very much for your feedback. We love the idea about the kids cutlery and hope to put this in place soon. We are writing a new menu as we speak which will definitely include even more kids options. We hope we can welcome you back soon.

“Fantastic family break!”

My husband and I brought our children here to celebrate our son's 5th birthday. We purchased one of the short break packages which included day passes to Chessington Zoo. Firstly let me say the price we paid for all four of us was fantastic. The room was immaculate, and the treasure box in the separate childrens area was a great hit! The staff were fantastic, all eager to help and make the stay as enjoyable as possible. Matt on reception was a true credit to the hotel. He was friendly, professional and made our stay one we will not forget for a very long time, and we can't wait to go back and stay for our eldest son's birthday and have another unforgetable weekend! We would highly recommend the resort to anyone thinking of taking the children away for a fun filled African adventure!!!

Room Tip: For a great view choose Wanyama reserve, for kids enjoyment pick one of the themed rooms!

“A nice surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I stayed here after a company 'Dinner/ Dance' in one of the conference rooms. Now, I know this is a Holiday Inn, and therefore expect a certain kind of hotel, but I really enjoyed waking up to the sound of apes being fed. Like waking up in the African Veld! This hotel is right next to Chessington Zoo (or World of Adventure). When I looked out of my window, I was greeted by the sight of half a dozen Ostrich dashing about like lunatics. It was worth staying just for that experience alone. The room I stayed in was an Executive Room. It was large, clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was a buffet and was luke warm and unremarkable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third floor at the back, food good views of the Surrey Savannah.

“This Holiday Inn exceeded my expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

My partner and I decided to combine a pre-planned dinner with friends with an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn Chessington and tickets to the Chessington Zoo Days.

The stay price was very good considering that it included breakfast and tickets for each of us to the zoo.

Upon arrival, the hotel is easy to find and looks nice, the theming starts as soon as you walk through the door and after an easy check in, you can look at the fish and lizards on display in the reception area.

Our room was larger than I'd expected, and nicely themed with very effective blackout curtains, a comfortable bed and a choice of firm and soft pillows, which was a nice touch. Room had all the usual hot drinks making facilities, flatscreen tv and hair dryer. There was a note in the bathroom about complimentary toiletries if you have forgotten anything and as we'd left our electric toothbrush at home by mistake, we were give little colgate travel toothbrush & paste sets for free by reception.

After settling into our room we went and tried out the 'Quad' leisure club, the changing rooms, pool, hot tub and sauna were in good condition and nice and clean. There were quite a lot of kids in the pool when we first got in, but they had split the pool in 2 allowing adults to do laps on one side. The pool temp was good, and the hot tub was lovely and warm. Sauna was also what I would call the perfect temperature. I didn't really use the showers at the pool (other than quickly before entering the pool) as I wanted to enjoy the power shower in our room after my swim.

When we came out of the leisure area, there were some keepers from the zoo in the foyer with a variety of animals (rat, bearded dragon lizard, snake) that you could touch and find out more about. As a huge animal lover, this was an added bonus for me.

We had a very good nights sleep, no disturbances and breakfast (buffet) in the morning was served in the main restaurant which overlooks the reserve area of the zoo (ostriches, zebra & onyx). Breakfast options were varied, I had cereal followed by cooked breakfast with apple juice and had no complaints other than the fact that I had to wait a while at the buffet area for the chef to bring out more beans to replenish an empty bowl.

As a whole, we really enjoyed the stay and the subtle theming and little extras made it something to remember.

“Excellent again.”

We have stayed here several times now and are never disappointed. This time we were on the Santa sleepover package that included zoo tickets, drink & cookies after the zoo a visit to Santa and elf character breakfast. We paid £99 and have to say It was excellent value. Hope they do it again this year.

My 5yr old had a brilliant time and the hotel coped very well with everyone especially the large number of kids :).
