My partner and I decided to combine a pre-planned dinner with friends with an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn Chessington and tickets to the Chessington Zoo Days.
The stay price was very good considering that it included breakfast and tickets for each of us to the zoo.
Upon arrival, the hotel is easy to find and looks nice, the theming starts as soon as you walk through the door and after an easy check in, you can look at the fish and lizards on display in the reception area.
Our room was larger than I'd expected, and nicely themed with very effective blackout curtains, a comfortable bed and a choice of firm and soft pillows, which was a nice touch. Room had all the usual hot drinks making facilities, flatscreen tv and hair dryer. There was a note in the bathroom about complimentary toiletries if you have forgotten anything and as we'd left our electric toothbrush at home by mistake, we were give little colgate travel toothbrush & paste sets for free by reception.
After settling into our room we went and tried out the 'Quad' leisure club, the changing rooms, pool, hot tub and sauna were in good condition and nice and clean. There were quite a lot of kids in the pool when we first got in, but they had split the pool in 2 allowing adults to do laps on one side. The pool temp was good, and the hot tub was lovely and warm. Sauna was also what I would call the perfect temperature. I didn't really use the showers at the pool (other than quickly before entering the pool) as I wanted to enjoy the power shower in our room after my swim.
When we came out of the leisure area, there were some keepers from the zoo in the foyer with a variety of animals (rat, bearded dragon lizard, snake) that you could touch and find out more about. As a huge animal lover, this was an added bonus for me.
We had a very good nights sleep, no disturbances and breakfast (buffet) in the morning was served in the main restaurant which overlooks the reserve area of the zoo (ostriches, zebra & onyx). Breakfast options were varied, I had cereal followed by cooked breakfast with apple juice and had no complaints other than the fact that I had to wait a while at the buffet area for the chef to bring out more beans to replenish an empty bowl.
As a whole, we really enjoyed the stay and the subtle theming and little extras made it something to remember.
