We stayed at the Hotel Waalwijk for one night in September 2004, as we were visiting the themepark De Efteling (which was excellent!). We booked online and got a price of 90 euros for the room, which turned out to be excellent value for money.
The hotel was difficult to find and we drove around the area several times to find it. When we did get there we turned into the car park and it was full, it was a bad start to say the least. We parked our hire car down a resedential street, which I was worried about as I am totally paranoid that someone will steal or break into the car.
We went to check in at the reception and there were lots of business people drinking wine everywhere, I dont know if they were waiting to go into the restaurant or what, but it did seem a little strange. Anyway the man on reception checked us in quickly, told us what time breakfast was and gave us the keys to our room. He advised us the car park should empty later on once all the business people had left, which it did and we managed to move our car.
I was very impressed with the room we had, lovely decor, comfortable king size bed, plush bathroom and all very clean. The room was quite large with the usual furniture and things, very nice. One thing we did notice that it was quite noisy, doors banging etc but this didnt go on any later than say Midnight, so wasnt really a problem for us. We also had a nice view of the wheelie bins, which could of been better.
We tested the bar which was cosy, but very busy and drinks were the going rate. The restaurant seemed very popular lots of people in there eating, drinking and having a good time. The complimentary breakfast was nice, plenty of choice with hot items and all the usual continental bits and bobs. Nothing too special but plentiful and was a good start to the day. Checkout was easy and overall we had a great stay. I would recommend this hotel, however if we were to go to De Efteling theme park again, I would probably stay somewhere a bit nearer.
