“A great alternative to the Golden Tulip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2007

Stayed two seperate nights, straddling a night at the Golden Tulip. We know this as the NH Hotel Waalwijk, but it seems others call it the Queen Hotel.
I probably enjoyed this place far more than the Golden Tulip. The food is better, the ambience is far more relaxing, and there are open spaces you can escape into. The restaurant although quite pricey was good. Buffet breakfast was extra but OK.
It doesn't have the Golden Tulip's theme, it doesn't have as many kids activities, or a playround, it doesn't have that "magic" that your kids love. But adults will love it because it so more relaxing. You also get video on demand (at a price) which our 4 year old loved, and made up for anything he may have been missing at Efteling. About 5 mins drive to the park, and about a 45 min walk to the centre of Waalwijk. The hotel is pretty remote, but there does seem to be a couple of small towns within about 15mins walk, but we didn't have time to visit these.
We had a suite, and this was more than big enough for a family of four. Staff were superb, very friendly and professional.
Would I stay again? If I could get a suite at Efteling then no. Nothing beats one of the themed suites. However if these aren't available, then this place wins every time.

“Highway hotel with nice restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2006

The hotel rooms and amenities were very nice and adequate. I ate a very nice dinner outside on the terrace and found the service and food to be very enjoyable.

My only negative feedback would be the location. You are not within walking distance of anything - this hotel is kind of out on its own by the highway, so you will have to drive if you want to do anything else.

Otherwise, a great place for a one night stay.

“Good Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2005

We stayed at the Hotel Waalwijk for one night in September 2004, as we were visiting the themepark De Efteling (which was excellent!). We booked online and got a price of 90 euros for the room, which turned out to be excellent value for money.

The hotel was difficult to find and we drove around the area several times to find it. When we did get there we turned into the car park and it was full, it was a bad start to say the least. We parked our hire car down a resedential street, which I was worried about as I am totally paranoid that someone will steal or break into the car.

We went to check in at the reception and there were lots of business people drinking wine everywhere, I dont know if they were waiting to go into the restaurant or what, but it did seem a little strange. Anyway the man on reception checked us in quickly, told us what time breakfast was and gave us the keys to our room. He advised us the car park should empty later on once all the business people had left, which it did and we managed to move our car.

I was very impressed with the room we had, lovely decor, comfortable king size bed, plush bathroom and all very clean. The room was quite large with the usual furniture and things, very nice. One thing we did notice that it was quite noisy, doors banging etc but this didnt go on any later than say Midnight, so wasnt really a problem for us. We also had a nice view of the wheelie bins, which could of been better.

We tested the bar which was cosy, but very busy and drinks were the going rate. The restaurant seemed very popular lots of people in there eating, drinking and having a good time. The complimentary breakfast was nice, plenty of choice with hot items and all the usual continental bits and bobs. Nothing too special but plentiful and was a good start to the day. Checkout was easy and overall we had a great stay. I would recommend this hotel, however if we were to go to De Efteling theme park again, I would probably stay somewhere a bit nearer.
