Before going any further the key thing about the Hotel Augustus::
£295 HALF BOARD , FAMILY OF FOUR, 7 NIGHTS, UK WHITSUN HOLIDAY WEEK (Total cost , not each).
We had read some bad reviews about this hotel, but after adding ryanair flights from our local airport at total £300, all in we had a week in spain for less than £600 with our food, thats £100 less than our usual caravan break in UK. So we thought wht not give it a try.
Hotel is approx 8 miles from Reus airport midway between Salou and Cambrils. Room was allocated on arrival and we were lucky to get a room overlooking the pool and with a gorgous view out to sea. Clear bright sunny skies every day, 28 degrees average temp.
The room was small and basic, especially for a family of 4, but it was very clean and was cleaned every day by the hotel staff and the beds were remade. Bathroom was fine with fresh towels and toiletries provided. Balcony was pleasant, it had sun most of the day and was nice to sit and look out.
We loved the fact that the pool and beach were only a few steps away and there were no roads for the kids to worry about. Beach and sea were very clean. Pool and pool area was also very clean and lifeguard was present. We always managed to get sunbeds.
Very mixed crowd in the hotel: young and old, couples and families. Majority Spanish, with German, Dutch, Italian And Russian holidaymakers, oh and we did hear a couple of other British families.
Restaurant is canteen style layout with all you can eat breakfast and dinner buffet. We found the food perfectly acceptable and we all found something each day we enjoyed. Drinks are free with breakfast. Evening buffet drinks and subsidized approx 1/2 normal prices. Example bottle of house wine £5.
Staff are Spanish and hardly speak any English. There is night time entertainment, example sword thrower, acrobats and flamenco dancers !!!! Say no more
Bingo in 6 different languages was more entertaining the entertainment that followed.
With the money we saved on the hotel we were able to visit Port Aventura theme park, Aquapolis water park, and the roman city in Tarragona. All in easy reach and great fun.
All in all everything about this holiday exceeded our expectations, and we all agreed we will do the same trip again.
Of course at these prices there are minus points. Getting by without speaking Spanish was sometimes tricky. The hotel was full so was noisy on an evening and did not calm down till after midnight. The walls between rooms are very thin. We were fortunate to have respectful folk around us, but if you get noisy neighbours it would be off-putting.
A group of about 30 school kids moved in on our last night. That would have been noisy if they were staying in rooms close by.
