“Great value and exceeded our expectations”

Before going any further the key thing about the Hotel Augustus::
£295 HALF BOARD , FAMILY OF FOUR, 7 NIGHTS, UK WHITSUN HOLIDAY WEEK (Total cost , not each).
We had read some bad reviews about this hotel, but after adding ryanair flights from our local airport at total £300, all in we had a week in spain for less than £600 with our food, thats £100 less than our usual caravan break in UK. So we thought wht not give it a try.
Hotel is approx 8 miles from Reus airport midway between Salou and Cambrils. Room was allocated on arrival and we were lucky to get a room overlooking the pool and with a gorgous view out to sea. Clear bright sunny skies every day, 28 degrees average temp.
The room was small and basic, especially for a family of 4, but it was very clean and was cleaned every day by the hotel staff and the beds were remade. Bathroom was fine with fresh towels and toiletries provided. Balcony was pleasant, it had sun most of the day and was nice to sit and look out.
We loved the fact that the pool and beach were only a few steps away and there were no roads for the kids to worry about. Beach and sea were very clean. Pool and pool area was also very clean and lifeguard was present. We always managed to get sunbeds.
Very mixed crowd in the hotel: young and old, couples and families. Majority Spanish, with German, Dutch, Italian And Russian holidaymakers, oh and we did hear a couple of other British families.
Restaurant is canteen style layout with all you can eat breakfast and dinner buffet. We found the food perfectly acceptable and we all found something each day we enjoyed. Drinks are free with breakfast. Evening buffet drinks and subsidized approx 1/2 normal prices. Example bottle of house wine £5.
Staff are Spanish and hardly speak any English. There is night time entertainment, example sword thrower, acrobats and flamenco dancers !!!! Say no more
Bingo in 6 different languages was more entertaining the entertainment that followed.
With the money we saved on the hotel we were able to visit Port Aventura theme park, Aquapolis water park, and the roman city in Tarragona. All in easy reach and great fun.

All in all everything about this holiday exceeded our expectations, and we all agreed we will do the same trip again.

Of course at these prices there are minus points. Getting by without speaking Spanish was sometimes tricky. The hotel was full so was noisy on an evening and did not calm down till after midnight. The walls between rooms are very thin. We were fortunate to have respectful folk around us, but if you get noisy neighbours it would be off-putting.
A group of about 30 school kids moved in on our last night. That would have been noisy if they were staying in rooms close by.

“Just what I wanted for a week away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2010

I have just returned from a one week's stay with three friends at Hotel Augustus. We all had separate rooms (a twin room each for small extra charge) with sea views. We arrived late in the evening but they had prepared a cold snack for us on arrival. The hotel is very clean, food good and varied and staff very helpful. The hotel is situated in a very good position right by the beach and on a direct bus route. The lovely town of Cambrils is a couple of miles one way and the other way takes you to Salou and Tarragona. You can obtain cards for 10 bus trips at a good saving from the office right by the hotel. The resort was quiet and very pleasant the week we were there though it was getting busy on the Saturday we came home. We were the only English people in the hotel but why should we complain about some of our requests not being fully understood when we had made no effort to learn Spanish. The only problem I found in my room was a faulty shower and this was fixed between me reporting it before breakfast and me returning to my room afterwards. There was entertainment every evening. We had a really lovely week and I would recommend this hotel to everyone wanting to stay in this area.

“Fantastic Value, right on the BEACH, Clean and good service, not tacky”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2010

Found this hotel on Trip Advisor, booked with Veneer.com and got it for for a song, breakfast included. This hotel has been modernized and the lobby and dining room, bar and all newly decorated. When we were there it was mostly spanish familys that were there, going to Port Aventura which is only about 10-15 away by car.
Great breakfast, nice clean pool, not huge but who needs it when the beach is only a stones throw away. Parking across the road for 9.50 a day.
Cambrils is south of Salou, which I would not recomend, it is such a tacky place full of durnks, day and night.

“Reasonable value....but not great.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2010

Out of season visit, on arrival looks fine if a bit shabby on the outside. They want €9 a day for parking which is a bit of a rip-off but luckily at this time of year on street parking was always available (and free). Room was clean and OK for the couple of days we stayed but, with just one teenager, it would be too cramped for a stay of any greater length.
Unfortunately our visit coincided with four or five coachloads of schoolchildren turning up. I've nothing against children but these seemed to be totally unsupervised and out of control. Banging, crashing and shouting in the corridors and on the balconies continued until around midnight when I managed to get to sleep. Most of them left the following day though so the second night was much more peaceful.
Breakfast was brilliant, huge choice of hot and cold and set us up for the day perfectly, however we had the buffet dinner one evening (€8 each) which was very disappointing. It looked great but the cold dishes in particular were very bland. Filled up on spaghetti which was just about acceptable.
Overall it wasn't too bad, I wouldn't want to stay in peak season and for the €30 a night we paid I can't grumble too much...wouldn't want to pay much more though.
Strange thing from an English perspective was seeing the locals in coats and scarves and the beach totally deserted whem it was 23/24 degrees beneath a cloudless sky.

“but if you're more interested in sea and food ( like me )) then in parties - you'll even like it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2009

Rooms - big and clean, a little bit noisy
Restaurant - perfect! the only problem - you may finish your lunch before they bring you a drink
Staff - Polite and nice, BUT have very poor english. It's extremely hard to explain anything them (i was trying to ask if i can have some milkshake in a "to go cup" to take it to my room...after 15 minutes i decided that vending machine understands me better ))
Location - a little bit far from Cambrils center, but if you're more interested in sea and food ( like me )) then in parties - you'll even like it!
