To say anything negative about the President Hotel would be nit picking. Perhaps the ancient furniture in the rooms and lack of hooks in the bathrooms maybe.....
The approach roads to the hotel may give you a bad impression as its narrow and next to a graffitti covered open storm sewer. But the hotel itself is superb. The common areas and rooms are clean and spacious. The bathrooms are large and all rooms have a balcony with excellent double glazed doors and blackout curtains.
There are 3 pools with amusingly cold water, which is fine once your in.The top pool, although an odd shape is the best for swimming. If you sunbathe around this pool, beware the nasty little flies that can give you a wicked bite that will itch like crazy.
The crowning glory of this hotel is the food. Every meal is an all you can eat buffet. The variety and quality of the food is what you would expect to find at a 4 or 5 star hotel. The prices of drinks are reasonable for meals and at the bar. All staff are friendly and the receptionists speak good English.
I would recommend you get a room at the back, overlooking the pool on at least the 5th floor, as those rooms get the sun in the evening.
There was entertainment provided must nights. The TV in your room received 3 English speaking channels, CNN, Eurosport and ITV 3.

“Great vacation at Hotel President in Calella!”

Just come back from a seven days vacation at Hotel President in Calella, Catalonia. Pretty crowded in this period of the year, but despite different nationalities and crowd the hotel staff was up to duty and make our vacation memorable. We had a hotel room with the view in front of the hotel and close to elevator. At the beggining we were a bit worried about the noise, however everything was fine. In some nights was some noise from the Oxygen disco, closely located to hotel, but was not a daily(nightly) rule. The room was pretty spacious - for two adult people - and amenities were working properly. The main thing that I want to mentioned was the buffet restaurant. We booked a half board ticket and just enjoyed the quality of the food and service. High variation of the food, fresh and good quality and also in enough quantity for everyone. Almost different menu in every night, including dinner themes, in order to avoid routine. Breakfast was also great. Everything you need for a good start in the morning for all tastes. Just one comment here: the quality of the coffee and juice at the breakfast were not quite good. I am a coffee lover and enjoying having a good breakfast with a good coffee at the end, so sometimes I decided to take the coffee elsewhere. So, overall I was pretty happy with the vacation at Hotel President. If you want a good hotel with a great staff and with a delicious buffet restaurant this hotel is a good choice.

“Nice and clean”

The rooms are nice and clean, with a balcony. The garden and pool area is very nice. Lots of different food at every meal, but nothing I really loved to eat. You will have to pay for drinks, included water. No coffee or tea (except for breakfast), not even with desserts.
The hotel have wi-fi in the reseption, but this does not work very well at all. I gave it up!
The location is good; the beach down the road, restaurants and stores near by. Staff does not speak very well English, though.

we loved this hotel, although we are use to staying in five star this hotel did just what we wanted, good base, nice food that did get a bit boring but a few nights out did the trick, nice pool, excellent mini club and disco for our four year old girl and hardly any english, very multi-cultural.

“Would recommend whole heartedley”

Have just returned from a 10 day stay at The President today (13.8.09.) After searching through bad reveiw after bad review on hundreds of Costa Brava hotels I finally came across this hotel. By this time I was fast becoming put off from travelling to Costa Brava. However, this hotel (for 3 stars) was absolutely excellent. Rooms were fine, hot showers at any time of the day or night, Could not fault the cleanliness. Rooms cleaned every day, pool area cleaned daily, etc. We stayed full board and the food was fantastic. Plenty of variety for even the fussiest eater (of which I am one) Even our 12 year old found plenty to eat and we never heard a complaint once. Hotel had few English but that wasn't a problem. Lots of Spanish, French, German, Dutch guests but no problem. Entertainment at the hotel was not for us, waltzing and spanish duets, but we did have a great night on our last night where they had Krusto the clown and a compere on who got 5 guys up for a competition doing all kinds of daft stuff. We really enjoyed it. Calella itself was a bit quiet for us. (From what I can gather the place comes alive later on so sounds like a great place for the young ones.) Nothing much happening except sitting in a bar with music in the background which would be my only critisism. Travelled to Barcelona on the train, really easy to do, and went to the zoo. Expensive but a great day out. All in all I would say I was pleasantly surprised. I would definitely go back to The President Hotel, just not sure I would go back to Calella.
