“You get what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We went for a week on 2nd feb 2012 with our 3 year old and paid only £450 all inclusive for week inc flights transfers etc so we didnt expect much and thats what we got!!! the hotel itself is nice and clean rooms are big but very dusty and the maids clean every day(well make the bed thats it) at different times so you sometimes were in your room one day they came to clean at 6pm!! The food well if you like cold chips with everything your sorted, I usually put weight on on holiday I lost weight on this one the food is awful its all pork and chicken and not recognisble as meat (jamie oliver turkey twizzlers come to mind) we had to eat out most days which cost us alot of money. The area around the hotel is very shabby and there is nothing to do. My biggest grudge about this hotel is the"all inclusive" the spirits are on optics and i drank ten vodkas one night and didint feel drunk watered down if you ask me. Everything is watched you can only get one drink so if we wanted a drink we had to go up 3 times and everything you get is swiped with a card so they know exactly what you are having. On the description we were told you could get snacks inbetween meal times - no you cant as its not peak season so if you didint make breakfast you had to wait til lunch for anything to eat. you also dont get to have any food or drink on your day of depature. The staff work from 9.30am til after midnight they are miserable as sin!! The entertainment wel llack of it nothing was on cause IT WASNT PEAK SEASON. Every night the same cd was out on which was spanish music and all the old spanish people danced all night - it was like a disco at a nursing home!! everything was very much based around the spanish it was like us british were muck!! And the rooms well I heard next door pass wind of a morning donot go here if you want a relaxing break I would not go here again but we did have a relaxing time and went on th train to barcelona one day if you want cheap, crap food, watered down alcohol go the caella palace

Room Tip: Top floor less noise

“Paper thin walls and miserable bar staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Just returned from this hotel today 4 Feb after a AI 3 night break. Hotel is in a residential area of Calella. Hotel rooms are large with two double beds. But dividing walls are paper thin, e person i the next room only needs to break wind you would here it.
The food selection was poor but edible, nice to be able to have a bottle of wine with your meal.
The entertainment was very bad the So called disco consisted of 50,s and 60,s music with Spanish folk music for most of the night.
Two of the older barstaff seemed to have forgot how to smile or acknowledge you when you spoke to them.
Went to Barcelona on the train cost 8 euro return, fantastic survice.

“Calella Palace.and the Amaika”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Beware if you're booking at the Amaika before March 2012..It's CLOSED.
Booking Agents will still take your dosh though, then send you an appologetic e-mail telling you're being to the Calella Palace,a similar 4star Hotel near by.
Had you booked the Palace in the first place you'd have saved yourself £27:08 on a 7nights All Inclusive deal.
Should you point out this small detail to the Booking Agent you'll be told that they have had to pay an extra £76 to re-locate you to the Palace and therefore can't refund you the difference?Mmmm??
It's NOT your fault they're advertising the Amaika as being open for buisness.
Don't be fobbed off!!! Get your refund, or if you're on the A/Inc. deal get an upgrade to Gold A/Inc.

“Neighbour, turn your tv down!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

My partner and I stayed here from 23rd December 2011 until 27th December. The hotel was clean in all areas including the bedrooms. The food was average, we were glad we were only half board as this give us the chance to eat at some of the local restaurants. We found that there were not enough tables for the amount of people wanting to eat. We often asked couples to join our table as people were standing around looking like spare parts , and it was embarrasing for everyone!!. Our worse part of our stay was when we arrived, we had a problem with the key fob to get into the room. As I waited outside our room in the corridor for my partner to walk back to reception and change the key, all I could hear was the tv blaring out. It was the same once in the room. We thought it was someone elderly with an hearing problem so we didnt bother as it was day time. After the evening meal I caught a glimpse of the neighbours and realised they were younger than us. We were rudely awakened at 4.15am the following morning by their tv being turned on rather loudly. After knocking on the wall and not being heard, we rang down to reception (not expecting anything to happen!) To our joy they sent someone up to their room and after knocking on their door for 5 mins eventually managed to get them to hear and they turned off the tv straight away. Unfortunatley this happen during the day a couple of times and again on the last night where I got up and knocked on their door and asked them to be quiet!! It wasn't just their fault, like other reviews say, the walls were paper thin. So much so we could hear the other side neighbours going to the loo at various times of the day and the night!! We would not use this hotel again, for the reasons stated, which could be rectified with insulation between the walls!!. Calella though at christmas is fantastic, enjoyed more proberly due to the mild weather and watching hundreds of people on christmas day running into the sea!!!
