“PLEASE GIVE IT A MISS. NO BRITISH TOURISTS SHOULD PUT UP WITH THIS”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

just came back. if you are english please please give it a wide berth. the food is not worth queing 30mins for at every meal time. I would not feed most of it to pigs THATS TRULY HOW BAD IT IS. The only toaster they had took 16mins to give the bread a tan.The only lift was hand cranked it took that long. Only 8 sunbeds in pool area. 1.80 for a very small bottle of pop for kids. No aircon in the whole building.20 Years behind the other main resorts.SO SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE.

“we were reasonably impressed considering the price”

My wife, son and I stayed here early April. Basically nice rooms, nice little pool, bar, far enough from the noise of the train yet with a sea view.We booked on spec on the day due to its location, value and room size,we had a corner room with L shaped balcony. The price included breakfast but we could pay on the night if we wanted the evening meal 20 euros for three(our 6 yr old ate for free). The breakfast was more than adequate although fussy eaters might not have been keen on the evening meal,we had it twice.
Staff were really friendly, rooms cleaned and fresh towels daily.Calella was a typical spanish resort, we liked it. Visited Barcelona,Girona,Lloret using local car hire(much cheaper than airport).Jumped on the train to visit Blanes and Malgrat's huge municipal park, our son loved it! Overall a great holiday.

“Don't bother...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2009

I stayed here on my own, overnight in mid October. I was over to buy cigars and catch up with some old friends in town. (Got my Ryanair flights for 2p return, all in. Thanks Michael!)
First impressions on entering the reception area, were that the hotel was a bit past its prime. A fairly typical medium sized Costa Brava hotel. i.e tired and in need of an update. The two reception staff were professional and helpful (even if they didn’t seem particularly welcoming!) There was a slight mix-up in that I’d booked a double room for single occupancy but either the agent or the hotel had booked me into a single. The reception staff sorted it straight away.

The room itself was a nice size with a wardrobe, desk, TV (no remote though), radiator, safe, chairs & bedside cabinets. It also had a proper double bed – unusual as mostly you find two singles pushed together and made up as a double. The balcony was a decent size, overlooked the street and had the usual plastic table with two chairs & an ashtray. The room had no air conditioning. I could see this being a problem in the hotter months but it was fine at this time of year. The bathroom was nicer and looked more modern than the rest of the fittings. The shower was powerful enough and hot water plentiful.

There is one thing however that really spoilt my stay here: the quality and range of the buffet food on offer. I stayed half-board as this was the easiest option for me and I didn’t need to bother eating out. Let me first say, I love Spanish food and like to try new things. I’m not the sort of person who will only eat chips or a full English breakfast when abroad... Now I know that this hotel was very close to the end of it’s season – in fact there was less than a week before they closed up for the winter – but the food was simply, “edible,” shall we say.

The dinner on the first evening was adequate, with a few meat choices – chicken, sausages, meatballs; chips, potatoes and salad etc. (The maître did not offer me any wine but I took the view that I would be drinking later anyway, so not a problem.)
Breakfast the next morning was far worse. The hard boiled eggs on offer were overcooked and full of water. No other eggs were provided. The little mini sausages and the streaky bacon were again overcooked and cold. The “continental” selection consisted of salami and edam slices. I don’t really eat cereal so can’t comment but this area seemed to be reasonably stocked and there were a few pastries. The coffee from the machine was dire. To be honest the breakfast left me feeling queasy for most of the day. Not something I’m accustomed to when eating in Spain.
The hotel was also very keen to have you check out of your room by 10am. I am assured by my local friends that the actual check out time should be midday and this is stipulated by the local government / chamber of commerce.

I tend to visit Spain out of season and have had some excellent half board hotel accommodation and paid less for the privilege. (See my other reviews for these) The general atmosphere in the hotel seemed to be one of “can’t be bothered” and with all the upgrades going on to the local roads and infrastructure, the way that Calella seems to be moving more upmarket and returning to the feel of a more modern Spanish resort; the owners of Hotel Terramar really will need to up their game if they want to compete.

All in all, I’ve stayed in far better for far less and I’m afraid I wouldn’t return. Must try harder.

“cheap”

I stayed at this hotel for a week at the end of September 2006.
As we were 3 friends wanting something cheap and close to Barcelona, we asked for a triple room; we feared the space will not be enough, but after the check-in we were surprised. A very large room for a 2+ star hotel rating given by TUI.

The general opinion about the hotel was good: clean bathroom, large beds, clean towels every day, very close to the not so sandy beach. I admit the food wasn't great, the staff not especially freindly but the cheap price made me not to regret my stay.

Overall, a very good location for globetrotters wanting to see BArcelona and not wanting to pay a fortune in the city.

“A Good Stay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2007

We booked 2 weeks at the Terramar Hotel, Calella, for full board, during Sept/Oct 2007.
My wife and myself enjoyed our stay there. The hotel was basic, quite and private. Our room was clean and linen/towels were changed every day.
The staff were friendly and the food was good. Plenty of salad, fish and meat choices along with local dishes.
There were hardly any English guests at the hotel when we stayed there and the hotel was quite, with no loud live music. The only noise coming outside from groups of people singing in the streets in the small hours of the morning who were returning to their neighbouring accomodation. Calella is a busy place.
If you want a peaceful stay in a busy location with no fuss, no English style bingo/karaoke nights or evening entertainment, then this is the place to be.
The only downfalls to this hotel is that the gym needs updating (there is outdated equipment only of which half of it is working) and that the pool area is small (not really ideal for those who like to lie around the pool), however; you are on the beach in 5 minutes.
Would we stay there again? Yes.
