The hotel is only aimed at Scandinavian people with kids. We have previously been to a Sunwing hotel on Crete which was much more suitable for couples. We loved that place, and were therefore very disappointed with this hotel. It is high rise, tacky and full of very rude Scandinavian people with unruley kids. That said, if you have kids they will be well looked after here, and if they throw tantrums, you will fit right in.
We chose this hotel for two reasons really, the facilities (internet and gym) and the price, it was very cheap. A few hours after checking in we realised what a mistake we had made. Luckily it got a little better as we got a new room (the original room was on the 7th floor - great view and a tiny balcony). The new room was on the ground floor, seperate bedroom, large bathroom with a double shower and a balcony where we could sunbathe on sun loungers all day. The only bad hting about the room as that it was located right in front of the stage, where they held kiddies shows several times a day...
We wanted a hotel where we had access to a gym, and htiso ne had. Though you had to pay € 12 per person it was worth it. They had classes too, and the ones we went to was really good. The gym staff was friendly. The spa was very pricey. Didn't try the treatments as they were always booked (how?).
The staff on the reception, bar two people, were moody and not very helpful. They seemed bored and not bothered about their job/service.
The hotel is very Scandinavian, and pretty much all guests are Scandinavian. Some of the reception staff did not even speak English.
The pool area is big and really good. This kind of make up for the fact that it is a 10 or 20 minute walk to the nearest beaches. The best time to use the pool is in the afternoon when all the kids are getting ready to eat dinner at the same time.
You seem to have to pay for everything. No aircondition, but you can rent a fan for € 18. The internet cost € 25 for a week, if you use it a lot it is well worth it. The wireless internet is available everywhere, also in your room and the speed is decent.
We ate the breakfast once. Only one word can describe it: Mayhem. Quality and choice was decent. As it shoudl be for € 8.
We had dinner at the La tasca once. The service was very typical latin. Pretty decent and friendly, incredibly slow. We asked three different people for our check, but didn't get it before we got up and consemplated walking away. Food was ok. We ate in the village a couple of times, other than that we went to the Spar in the town (approx 10-15 min walk) and made out own food.
There is a minimarket on the resort. This will get you most things you need, at a hefty price compared with the Spar.
The town itself is ok and not too touristy compared with for example Pourto Rico. It easy to get around using the local bus (€ 1-2) or taxi (€ 4-5) to Porto Rico.
We would def not go back to this hotel, and probably not to Gran Canaria either. But reccommend the hotel to anyone with kids who want to be completly carefree and sheltered (and bored).
