“A great vacation for families with children”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

The swimming pools are great. They have activities for adults and children. The staff was well trained and the surroundings are safe for children of all ages. The restaurants are good, but you should take short walks and you'll find even better places to eat nearby. We've been there twice in 10 years, the kids loved it.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a sea view, otherwise you will see nothing but volcanic rocks.

“Hotel without any kind of personality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 April 2011

We are just back from a week at Sunwing Resort Arguineguin, and we are most definitely not going back there (or to any other Sunwing). We have been to Sunwing before (Mallorca) and that was quite ok, so we decided to go for this hotel in the Canary Islands when the political unrest in Egypt changed our original holiday plans.

We went there because we thought the kids would love it (age 5 and 7) and that it would be ok for us. We have been a lot to Spain and normally enjoy it - especially since it is normally quite easy to sneak away off the tourist paths. But this was just ... not good.

Let's start with what was good. The wheather was fantastic. The view of the ocean very nice. And the kids did like it (but they like almost all places we go to). Our room (1 bedroom apartment) was ok with nice big terrace facing the restaurant (and yes it is a bit noisy with the shows but that did not disturb us). Breakfast buffet is ok. Nice big pool. Free fitness classes 5 days a week.

Not so good: Hotel without any kind of personality. Mediocre service. Not good food (in hotel or in the nearby restaurants that we walked to along the broken path along the water...as a result we spent most of our vacation with someone sick - first me (most likely from eating near the hotel) and then our youngest son (most likely from eating from the children's dinner buffet at the hotel). Too cold water in the pool (according to the kids). Very crowded and stony area around the pool - sunbeds for everyone but you virtually sit on top of the next family). Noisy. Hotel somewhat run down. Very limited flowers or decoration or anything that would make it look nice. No beach close to hotel (a couple of kms away)

Just not nice.

“Mekka for Children. Hell for adults.”

As I stated, this is mekka for children. Hell for Adults.

+ Close to the Sea
+ Alright rooms

- Extremely bad tasting food, we were amazed how the chef could succeed to make so untasty food. Really bad!
- Only scandinavians
- Children everwhere, avoid this place if you dont want your vacation ruined. Even in the restaurant there are children running, screaming, crying etc. Not a very romantic place.

I will never go back to this hotel nor will I go back to Gran Canaria. Worst destination ever!

“Wonderful weather - awful food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

The weather was wonderful. The room was OK. It had refrigerator, microwaveowen and a cooking place, and all the tools for making your own food. Cleaning was excellent. I was glad I had all inclusive taking in account the high prices for food and drink. However the food was not very good. It was bulk style made and the quality moderate to poor. There was much to select between and normally you found something which was eatable. All inclusive with local drinks in the sunwing version is very special. It is only a few drinks you could choose between irrespective whether it is local or not. The bar srvice was extremely slow especially when you were on all inclusive.

The pool area was good and my 8y old daughter really enjoyed the holiday. There were so many kids to play with, and my daughter would have given 4 or 5 starts (She loves french fries and sausages - I do not). Location is in the middle of nowhere, but the entertainment was good.

In conclusion to receive other than a mediocre evaluation the hotel needs to something about food and bar service

“unless you have kids - don't go there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2010

The hotel is only aimed at Scandinavian people with kids. We have previously been to a Sunwing hotel on Crete which was much more suitable for couples. We loved that place, and were therefore very disappointed with this hotel. It is high rise, tacky and full of very rude Scandinavian people with unruley kids. That said, if you have kids they will be well looked after here, and if they throw tantrums, you will fit right in.

We chose this hotel for two reasons really, the facilities (internet and gym) and the price, it was very cheap. A few hours after checking in we realised what a mistake we had made. Luckily it got a little better as we got a new room (the original room was on the 7th floor - great view and a tiny balcony). The new room was on the ground floor, seperate bedroom, large bathroom with a double shower and a balcony where we could sunbathe on sun loungers all day. The only bad hting about the room as that it was located right in front of the stage, where they held kiddies shows several times a day...
We wanted a hotel where we had access to a gym, and htiso ne had. Though you had to pay € 12 per person it was worth it. They had classes too, and the ones we went to was really good. The gym staff was friendly. The spa was very pricey. Didn't try the treatments as they were always booked (how?).
The staff on the reception, bar two people, were moody and not very helpful. They seemed bored and not bothered about their job/service.
The hotel is very Scandinavian, and pretty much all guests are Scandinavian. Some of the reception staff did not even speak English.
The pool area is big and really good. This kind of make up for the fact that it is a 10 or 20 minute walk to the nearest beaches. The best time to use the pool is in the afternoon when all the kids are getting ready to eat dinner at the same time.
You seem to have to pay for everything. No aircondition, but you can rent a fan for € 18. The internet cost € 25 for a week, if you use it a lot it is well worth it. The wireless internet is available everywhere, also in your room and the speed is decent.
We ate the breakfast once. Only one word can describe it: Mayhem. Quality and choice was decent. As it shoudl be for € 8.
We had dinner at the La tasca once. The service was very typical latin. Pretty decent and friendly, incredibly slow. We asked three different people for our check, but didn't get it before we got up and consemplated walking away. Food was ok. We ate in the village a couple of times, other than that we went to the Spar in the town (approx 10-15 min walk) and made out own food.
There is a minimarket on the resort. This will get you most things you need, at a hefty price compared with the Spar.
The town itself is ok and not too touristy compared with for example Pourto Rico. It easy to get around using the local bus (€ 1-2) or taxi (€ 4-5) to Porto Rico.

We would def not go back to this hotel, and probably not to Gran Canaria either. But reccommend the hotel to anyone with kids who want to be completly carefree and sheltered (and bored).
