“what beach”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

the beach was a nightmare and the apartment did not have the things promised as standard and reception were not interested when you complained. took 3 toasters before one worked and the apartment door was extremely difficult to open. the bath was pathetic as it was peeling badly.they do not cater for brits because the tv is for norwegians swedes etc.
the minimarket has very limited stock and specialises in selling milk past its sell by date.
the walk to anfi is at least 15 minutes and you feel as if you are walking into a different world and as timeshare owners you appreciate the difference between the two resorts.
we found the food at the restauant very good but the hike up the stairs to it was something else.

Room Tip: have a room close to reception so you do not have the excessive climbing to do if you are forced to...

“Nice view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

I stayed here with my family in february 2009. (It's not on the list.) As you can see, it's a very big complex. We had a quiet room with a beautiful view. Our room was near the pool area, it was always pretty crowded. On top of the mainbuilding, there is a spa for the guests, that was very nice.

If you don't have a rented car and if you don't want to take a taxi all the time, I recommend that you stay in the mainbuilding. Or else it's a long walk to your room, when you get home, tired in the eveing. - And there's no lift in the second building neither. (Lift in the first one, is only from 3. floor and up. All in all, I don't recommend the place if you don't have a car/go by taxi. You can't just walk to all the restaurants or the beach.
The bus stops just outside the complex, which is near to Puerto Rico.

It was a nice stay, in a standard hotel.

“a new experience”

we have just arrived home from spending one week at balito beach, its true to say that you et what you pay for,The receptionist was very helpful and friendlyhe couldnt do enough for us. After having been there for 1day we though how quiet it was, only to dicover that in actual fact we were the only 2 people on the resort, honestly for the size of the complex we had it all to ourselves, cool? you would have thought so. The apartment itself was clean, tidy, basic with a fantastic view and in all the time we were there we saw only 1 cockroach, hey thats good!there was no restaurant open, the shop was empty of stock except water or juice, but we had the new renovated pool to ourselves, now that was heaven!!on reflection it isnot the worst place in the world, and anfi del mar is just around the corner, and should you choose too eat out go to anfi and eat at the tex mex, and tell ALFIE that the scots send there love, one last thing we did try the telly and all we got was spanish channels, but hey who wants to watch telly when on holiday, as I said before you get what you pay for ,its not as bad as some of the reviews Ive read, very friendlystaff and your holiday is what you make of it, so would we go back probably not, we will put down to lifes experience

“Cheap Accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

This hotell is a cheap alternative to the nearby Anfi Del Mar. But at the same time we were enjoying the beach at Anfi, which after my personal opinion is the best at Gran Canaria. It was quite warm in our rooms, and no aircondition. And the rooms were OK. Not great, but you get what you pay for... But if you are like me, you don`t travel to Gran Canaria to stay in your hotel room all day long... The rooms were clean.

“Great view - Terrible food - no beach!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2011
1

Balito Beach doesn't have a beach. It consists of a main hotel block set on a rocky shoreline with an area of scrub land next to it (this is the beach - it resembles the sort of car park you get in towns when they have just demolished ghetto housing and decided to call it a car park until they can decide what to do with it) and a seperate area of apartments built on a cliff top - many with spectacular views. If you walk around the bay to the left of the hotel you will come to a lovely timeshare complex with man-made beach, bars and restaurants etc.
The main problem with the place is the food. It really is the worst I've ever encountered anywhere in the world. All meals are buffet style. There are usually 3 or 4 choices such as chicken nuggets, meat balls, pasta, chips, fried fish full of bones and some form of stew which may have been rabbit. All of this food was kept warm by means of vats of boiling water under metal tins - the result was that everything was soggy. There was also a salad bar which was left open to the elements so that flies gratefully shared your choice of salad. The ice cream bar was empty for 12 out of our 14 days stay.
Our room was adequate although the sliding door to the balcony didn't slide and had to be shoved open. Outside there was a 2-inch gap above the sliding door - a wooden wedge had been hammered in to hold the door in place.
Next the "Supermarket". Not so super. Very limited stock - if you were staying self-catering (I wish we had) there was not enough variety to feed a family sufficiently. Also do not believe the sign which says "open all day 8 till 8" on the supermarket window as it closed for 4 hours every afternoon.
In a similar vein posters by reception boast of "entertainment and dancing every night". Perhaps I missed it but I never noticed anything like that.
"Sky Sports" in the pool bar was also slighlty exagerated. I went to watch a football match one night and the "pool bar" was shut and there were builders drilling everywhere. The manager assured me I could watch it on my TV in my room - this was also totally untrue of course as we only had German or Spanish stations.
The pool was packed and dirty and unpleasant.
Overall, apart from the view, this is an awful place to stay.

Room Tip: Book Self Catering
