“We'll be back...”

We stayed at the Barcelo in Corralejo from 1-8 February - we had been to the resort before, but this was our first time at this hotel. We were most impressed and will definitely be back.
We had requested a third floor room if possible; on arrival we were upgraded to a family room, which was on the first floor, which was on the pool side with the benefit of late afternoon sunshine. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable with a good sized private balcony.
All staff, at reception and in the restaurant and bar, were very good - helpful and friendly, without being obtrusive. We were on a half-board package and had no issues whatsoever with the food; at breakfast and in the evening there was a wide and varied selection.
The hotel is well situated in Corralejo, close to the beaches and to the main shops and bars (but not too close to these to create any issues).
The only minor problem with being located in a family room was the children in the room above running around and crying at unsocial hours (clearly no fault of the hotel, and we understand it will be designated adults only from May this year).
The weather wasn't quite as good as in previous years at this time (again, can't blame the hotel) but it was still warm enough to swim in the outdoor pool, and two days later watching the snow falling in UK we'd be quite happy to be back there.
Overall we would definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing holiday in comfortable surroundings.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms on the pool side would probably be the best bet, especially on the side that gets af...

“Excellent food, lovely room, would definitely go back”

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in November last year. We were not sure about booking this, as our friends had recommended different hotels, but it seemed very reasonably priced, and the reviews were generally very good, so went for it. So happy we did!

Food - For us one of the most important factors. We stayed 10 days half board so it needed to be good. My husband and I were both extremely happy with the vast choice, and excellent standard. They catered for both English and Spanish taste buds. I specially enjoyed the
soups, and freshly done crepes for breakfast with hot chocolate sauce. Also, they cooked a lot of the food in front of you, which I like. The staff cleared plates efficiently. I must say I could
not find fault.

Room - very spacious, immaculately clean. We picked the cheapest one, but we were very
comfortable there though no view.

Location - We explored the whole island and would say Corralejo is the best base in
Fuerteventura. The hotel was close to the beach and nice port area. Also close to the shops,
restaurants and amenities. I would recommend going over to Lanzarote with the car and
spending a couple of days there. Also, the beach in Lobos was well worth the day trip.

“great hotel”

Stayed here in the middle of January and really enjoyed my stay.Hotel is located in the centre of town which is great. Had a family room overlooking the pool which was huge and spotlessly clean. Fixtures and fittings are looking a bit tired, but not any worse than some 4 * i have stayed at in the uk. All the staff we encountered were great, always very helpful and polite, even the gardeners had a cheery 'ola' for us. Restaurant was good, plenty of variety at breakfast and dinner, ate at different times for both and did not have a problem with choice or quality. Entertainment catered more for the ' older guest ' shall we say, so tended to go out at night. The bars used by the locals were great, really friendly people. All the public areas are spotlessly clean and in good order and there seemed to be a maintenance programme going on around the pool area to bring it up to standard.
This is a great hotel. Would I stay again, probably not, for no other reason then it's changing to adults only and having stayed at this type of hotel before found the atmosphere quite flat. I think ( in my opinion ) that you need a variety of ages to give a hotel life. But if adults only is your bag, don't hesitate to go.

“Lovely hotel - lovely staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

From the moment we arrived and checked in we were treated by all the staff as a valued guest (what a difference to our last holiday experience at the Pajara Beach hotel at Costa Calma). Our luggage was taken to our room, which was spotless and very comfortable. We had requested a 3rd floor room overlooking the pool, which we were given. The hotel is in a good position, just on the edge of town and close to a lovely sandy beach. Very quiet at night so no sleep problems.

There is some entertainment put on in the evenings, normally a singer or musician playing the lounge/reception area and some other act in a separate theatre. At the time we were there I dont think the hotel was very full so there wasn't a big audience for the entertainment.

The pool area was well kept and had plenty of sunbeds. One of the pools was slightly heated, the bigger pool was very cold. The animation team came round several times during the day to try and get people to join in the activities ( french boule, rifle shooting, diving lesson etc). They were really friendly and would often stop for a chat.

If I had to gripe about something it would be the food in the buffet restaurant. Although good, the hot food was never hot, only just warm. Even when dishes were being replenished they were still not hot. Apart from this I would definately recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Would recommend 3rd floor overlooking pool

“Faded glory”

I can see that the hotel would have been excellent when built and under its previous owners, but there seems to be just too much penny-pinching cost-costing going on. Credit to the management for giving us a free bottle of sparkling wine (we were celebrating a wedding anniversary) and my admiration goes to the multi-lingual reception staff.

A few examples: orange juice at breakfast is not fresh (on a Spanish island!); coffee at breakfast is free, but they charge you in the evening; wifi is 6 Euro a day - but free at Waikiki beach club 100 metres away. Also the carpets are urgently in need of a deep clean, and the furniture is looking a little tired and chipped. I feel for the staff - they are doing a great job, but the new management seem intent on getting a return on their investment as soon as possible. I just hope they don't kill it, since it could still be a great hotel with a little less value engineering and a little more customer focus. If this really is the best that Corralejo has to offer then I'm sorry to say I won't be returning.

Room Tip: A random booking gets a free upgrade to the executive suite - a very nice room which our friends wer...
