I stayed for a week at the Aloe Club Resort end Jan/early Feb. It was a very cheap all inclusive deal and as a result I wasn’t sure what to expect but was just happy to escape the wintry UK weather for a week in the sun! I was impressed with the hotel. At first I was put in an apartment near reception which was very noisy as everyone had to walk past it, with no balcony, just a table and chairs on the path through to the other apartments. Also right over the stage and bar, so noisy at night. I asked for a quieter room and was given an apartment in the green zone, which was much nicer. It had a large patio balcony and was bigger than the first apartment. The green zone also has a small, quiet pool although I only used it once as I preferred the main pool area.
The rooms were cleaned most days and the whole complex seemed clean and tidy. There was the usual evening entertainment, kids disco, snake show, parrot show, eagle show, karaoke. I didn’t see much of it but it seemed the same as most other hotels in the area that I have stayed in, i.e not that great. The stage and seating area are outside with partial cover, which is a bit chilly at this time of year. An entertainment team tried their best to get people involved in daytime activities such as archery, volleyball, table tennis, but I think they struggled as they had to cancel a few things for lack of interest!
The food was good, not a huge amount of choice, but good quality, all nicely cooked and very tasty. Choice of salads and some different hot dishes each day, with all the usual burgers, chips, nuggets and pasta as well. The only downside was that a couple of times I came across plates that were not properly cleaned in the pile of so-called clean plates. Not much choice of AI snacks, just a covered plate on the bar with croissants and cakeThe AI drinks were fine overall, soft drinks, wine, sangria and beer “on tap” to help yourself in the restaurant at lunch and dinner and of an acceptable quality. The fruit juices at breakfast were not very good, very watered down. The same drinks were available at the bar at other times plus all the usual spirits and cocktails. I tried one of the cocktails but it was awful as they used the very diluted orange squash instead of orange juice.
The hotel is situated at the far end of the top road into Corralejo, about the furthest away that you can get from the centre and from the harbour. However, it is a nice walk in if you like walking, about 40-50 minutes or so either along the beach/beach path, or along the roads, and a short taxi or bus ride if not. It is about a 15-20 minute walk to the start of the shops on the main street. The advantage of being at the far end of the resort though is that it is about a 10 minutewalk in the other direction to the start of the dunes and ‘flag beach’, and only about a 45 minute walk to the beach by two big hotels on the dunes, where you can hire sunbeds, or buy food and drinks at several cafes. Again, only a short taxi or bus ride away, and there is a free bus that goes from the hotel at 10am and returns at 1pm if you just want to go for the morning.
There is a new botanical garden in Corralejo, which opened in March 2011, and this is near the hotel. Turn right out of the hotel, take the third right onto Calle Lanzarote, and it is about halfway down that road on the left. Further on at the end of the road is the El Campanario shopping Centre, and there is also a brand new shopping centre at the top of the main street in Corralejo.
The weather was OK, a few cloudy days and then a few clear days with unbroken blue skies, but always some sunshine each day and better than the snow at home!
Overall, despite the few issues pointed out, it was a good week and I would go again if it was at the same cheap, bargain price.
Room Tip: Rooms in the green zone are quieter.
