This was a great choice of hotel for a relaxing break from the British winter. The rooms are lovely – decorated very tastefully, in good condition, and with all the modern conveniences you expect in a top quality hotel. There’s even free internet – via an Ethernet cable – in the room, which is something that I always find refreshing given that so many properties tend to charge for it.
We stayed on the half-board package – the breakfast buffet was extensive and excellent quality, and the greeting at the restaurant each morning was always happy and attentive. The food options for the evening were the buffet option (same restaurant as breakfast), the Thai restaurant and the Spanish restaurant. Both of the a la carte options offer slightly reduced menus for half board customers, but both menus are more than good enough and we didn’t see any reason to add anything off the main menu. The quality of food at the a la carte restaurants was fantastic – absolutely perfect! The buffet was good but, given that I’m not a lover of buffets, I can’t say much more than that. Quality was good, service (i.e. for drinks) was ok, but I’d always prefer an a la carte option. Unfortunately, the other restaurants aren’t open every night and reservations can be difficult, so you have to eat a few times at the buffet.
The entertainment in the evening was pretty minimal and low key – only the lobby bar was open (presumably because we were off-season) and the musicians were talented but very similar. It got pretty repetitive after the first two nights. There is another bar downstairs which is bigger and looks more like what we would have been looking for but, as I say, it was closed which was a shame. Still, Corralejo is a 10-15 minute walk or a €5 taxi ride. We walked there most days for lunch at one of the many beach side restaurants (lunch is EXPENSIVE in the hotel!) and there’s plenty of chilled out bars for a couple of post-dinner drinks if the lobby bar entertainment isn’t for you.
The weather – not the fault of the hotel obviously(!) - is patchy in March, but that’s to be expected. We had a couple of days where it was baking hot, but a few rainy and cooler days. That said, when you’re in a hotel as nice as this, it’s not really a problem as you can just chill out in the lovely bedrooms. Or you can use it as an excuse to check out the wonderful spa – again, just what you would expect from a top quality 5* hotel, the spa is brilliantly kitted out and a wonderful place to go and relax for a few hours.
All in all, a great trip and a great hotel. We would definitely go back if we had the opportunity. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s definitely worth it!
