“Tired and annexed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

It is difficult to recommend either the hotel or the annex. The hotel is clean but tired and lacks any comfortable area in which to relax and enjoy a drink in the evening.
The annex is a very large development of equally tired flats joined by long draughty connecting corridors and an exposed walk to the dining room. It is set out in its own grounds across the driveway from the main hotel.
The snack bars in both the hotel and annex resemble university halls of residence, plastic chairs and tables in dark rooms matching the overall dark and dingy theme.
Don't be too put off by the annex, it has the better pool area for children and is less claustrophobic. Just be aware, a holiday in the annex is not a hotel holiday; think self catering flats mitigated by a walk to the dining room.

The food in the annex dining room is the same as the main hotel. Perfectly adequate choice and of a high standard with very helpful and friendly staff. The wine and beer is self service from draught pumps. Remember to bring plenty of antacids and paracetamol for the side effects.

This is a good base to tour from but not to stay all day. The beaches around the hotel are beautiful but the prevailing on shore wind means that the sea will inevitably be rough. Hire a car and go to the west side for shelter and beaches.

We went for the wind and surf and were not disappointed, had we wanted a nice hotel holiday..........

Room Tip: If you want a good room, try the Hotel Tres Islas next door.

“Good Hotel but not 4 star”

Went to this hotel for one week jan28th 2012. We stayed in what everyone calls the annex but i think they should just be called the apartments. We could not fault the room they were bigger than the hotel rooms. The Restuarant was better than the hotel one not as busy the pool was the only heated one .The hotel staff were lovely could not do enough for you very clean as soon as you finished a drink or meal it was cleared away no messy tables. The down side was the nightly entertainment they could do with bringing in better acts.
The food was the same every day but plenty of it but nothing to rave about but what you pay for the holiday you cant moan because it is very good value for money we only paid £416each so we did eat out twice which made a nice change to go into town in the evening.I would recommend this hotel if you just want to chill out & for a cheap get away give it a try the beach is amazing(if the wind calms down)

Room Tip: ask for sea view

“Fantastic location, spacious family rooms, food so-so”

Best beach ever - compared to beaches in Egypt, Thailand, Bali, etc. Quiet locale, kid-friendly, nice big family rooms. Food so-so - presentation definitely lacking, and atmosphere of main dining areas more student cafeteria than anything else... noisy and chaotic.

Second time at the Riu Oliva.Stayed for 11 days in January 12. Lovely hotel food even better than two years ago, lots to choose from, well cooked and presented. Everything spotlessly clean. Staff work very hard and always freindly and helpful. Must mention Veronica in the annex restaurant and Diego in the annex bar (great cocktails!!). Hubby and I stayed in the annex apartments, had two rooms which was great to have a separate bedroom and proper living room. much prefer that to hotel room, lovely and peaceful, great terrace. Rooms cleaned every day, thanks to Maria. Beach gorgeous and very clean. Bus into Corralego every half hour 1euro 20. Watched footy in the "Cheeky Monkey" bar ( San Miguel on draft for 1euro 50).Hello to Sam and Steve from Bristol. Will go again asap.

Room Tip: annex rooms facing beach are more private

Went hear for four nights over new year and had a good time. Weather was ok for December and managed to sit out for at least four hours per day.Beach was ok, pool area very busy - not enough sun beds though. Food was good and always plenty of choice. Room was dated and in need of repair and decoration - bathroom quite shabby, Overall a good time was had.
