We visited the Riu Palace during half term and took our 16 year old son. We chose the hotel for it's position on the beach as my husband and son are keen windsurfers. However, there was a "wind drought" for the week we were there and they didn't get to do any, but they did body surf which they thoroughly enjoyed.
We arrived at the hotel around 11.30pm and were given a very lukewarm welcome, no sign of a refreshing drink or snacks! The porter went off with our bags while we completed our check-in and we had to find our own way to our room. The room was very clean, if a little cramped with the 3rd bed in but we didn't mind as we spend very little time in the room anyway. However, the mattresses were so hard we did not sleep well. We have a firm mattress at home but this was the hardest bed I have ever slept on.
The pool area is very well kept and the pool clean but the Germans seem to think that if they have a sun bed one day, it is automatically theirs for their stay and I think they keep towels on them permanently! The average age of the guests must have been in the 70's and there were very few children and teenagers there for saying it was half-term.
As mentioned in previous reviews, there is a 2 sitting system in the buffet at night for evening meal and you are given a table for the duration of your stay (breakfast is free seating). On our first night we had not been allocated a table or a time (apparently this should have been done at check-in) but they found us a table anyway (the dining area does seat over 800 people). Winter times for meals were 6pm and 8pm. As we had started at 6pm we had to stick to that time for the week and this really annoyed me. I don't like to follow strict regimented timings on holiday, I go away to get away from being tied down and in every other hotel I have stayed in that provide buffet meals, you can arrive for your meal at any time during the advertised serving hours. As this seemed to work for breakfast, I cannot understand why they cannot do it for dinner. I think it suits the German's ordered way of life, but it caused me stress especially queuing at food stations and the Germans pushing in and not letting you get out of the way when you have got your food. However, I must say that the food was of a very good standard.
On the whole this was a good hotel for a winter break but I wouldn't like to stay for longer than 1 week. The beach was fantastic but the island has very little more to offer apart from the sunshine, although it is quieter than the other Canary Islands, all of which we have visited. I wouldn't go back to this hotel with my son. I can recommend the food, pool and cleanliness, the staff on the whole were professional and helpful but a little aloof, and it's location is very good.

The minor issues we had with the hotel building have been addressed in the refurbishment since our visit in 2006 without any change to the essential character of the hotel. From the moment you walk through the door everyone is unfailingly welcoming, helpful and pleasant, and our room was kept spotlessly clean. We particularly appreciated the extra touches to celebrate a birthday, and equally the prompt and effecient help when a doctor was required. The prescriptions were promised to be delivered to our door within 20 minutes, and they were there on the dot.

The food continues to be of high quality with a wide selection. The views across to Lanzarote and the Isla de Lobos, regularly changing with the light and shade never cease to enthral.

A continuing favourite hotel when an autumn escape is required.

I've just got back from a weeks stay at the Tres Islas(17th-24th Oct) and i'm wishing I was still there!
It was our first holiday away with our two year old daughter and I must say we had a brilliant time.
The hotel itself is immaculate and the staff are some of the best i've come across, they made us feel very welcome and made a real fuss of our daughter.
I love my food and wasn't dissappointed with the resturaunt, although it is a bit of a free for all, the germans seemed to think there was a food shortage on!!
I recommend a night in the a la carte resturaunt, the food was amazing and you get away from all the hustle and bustle of the buffey, try the sirloin!
The pool area was great, pool was a bit cold but once you're in you soon warm up, the weather was a lovely 32 degrees. Loads of sunbeds but you still get the Germans wandering around in the dark putting their towels out at silly o'clock in the morning!
Evening entertainment is very low key but that's what we wanted, we were happy to sit around and watch our daughter dancing with the other children.
My one complaint is that the drinks are very expensive, our bill came in at nearly 400 euros for one week.
The highlight was the beach, beautiful golden sand on your doorstep, wonderful for a stroll late afternoon before dinner.
All in all a wonderful holiday and I would recommend it highly.

Stayed here for a week from 10 October on a Thomas Cook Holiday from Belfast. We have stayed in the Tres Islas on 4 previous occasions but not since the extensive refurbshment programme.
We were not disappointed with the new hotel standards and as usual the staff were superb in their levels of service. We recognised quite a few of them from 2 years ago and the Maitre De recognised us on the first night.
The general atmosphere of the hotel and beach area was very restful and hopefully we will return next year. Weather during our stay was perfect with 28 during the day and 21 at night.
Only complaint was the lack of room on the TC aeroplane - never been so cramped in my life. Hopefully Aer Lingus will commence direct flights before 2010.

We stayed here from 30 Sept to 7 Oct 2009 and had a lovely time. On arrival your bags are whisked away and you relax in the foyer with a glass of sparklling wine whilst they process your documents.

The staff are excellent and very friendly as were a lot of the guests which we found to be a combination of different nationalities but we like that. We find that standards are much higher in mixed nationality hotels than the hotels catering for 'Brits only'.
We found we were sat in what we felt to be the 'German' side of the hotel but was fine with it and felt we were treat no differently that the Germans by the waiters but not so sure about the manager of the restaurent!
We also ate in the 'Fusion' restaurent and it was lovely I agree with the lady in the previous review and the Salmon is gorgeous. However if you want to eat here one night (no extra cost) book as soon as you arrive as we couldnt get in on the fri and sat night.

The atmosphere around the pool was very quiet and sedate - and a bonus for us was not seeing a child over the age of 4 for a week. Plenty of sunbeds available so no need to reserve however with some people old habits die hard and we saw a couple putting their towels out at 8.30PM!
Sun towels are provided so need to take your own unless you want to.

Rooms are nice we usually take a suite but had a standard room here and it was lovely and spacious with a nice sunny balcony and loads of storage space.

The food is lovely, I felt better than the food we experienced last year in a 5 star hotel on the Algarve. Drinks are very expensive we paid 6 euro for an orange juice around the pool - freshly squeezed mind; which seemed to make my partner feel it was value for money! The spirits in the closest supermarket where very expensive at 20 euro for a bottle of black smirnoff or 20 plus euro for a bottle of gin so if there are any good deals on the plane on the way in pick it up there....however in Corralejo there are a few supermarkets selling it cheaper. Corralejo is around 7 euro in a cab.

The view as you go onto the beach from the spa/jacuzzi area is fantastic as you see the turquoise sea, white sand and the island of Los Lobos in the distance through the glass in the white wall is to die for (photo attached)

Corralejo however is not much to write home about, we only went once. A bit jaded but lots of building work going on so looks as if they are trying to improve it.

Our only 2 gripes are the air con is centrally controlled so sometimes its quite hot, but we had ceiling fans which were sufficient once you aclimatise and no lighting on the balconies and as we spend most of our evenings there we ended up relying on candles in a San Miguel bottles.....however beware, this can be dangerous if partner takes them out of context and considers them romantic!

We also had pigeons visiting in the afternoon to be fed and they are very tame...........however not everyones cup of tea but I loved it.

All in all a lovely time and I would deffo go again.
