We had done quite a bit of research into our trip away in February as I am suffering from cancer and this was to be a break of total relaxation. After our long journey we arrived at around 6.30 only to be told there was no refreshment available as it was Sunday. We were not impressed with this nor had we been happy on our arrival at the airport to be told that the spa, one of our main requirements, was out of order but would be working soon. The outdoor heated pool was not, the decor faded and in some places totally unacceptable, the entire property was run down and in need of refurbishment. Their information suggests an attention to detail, this was not apparent. The bathroom was badly repaired and the soap, shower gel etc dispensed from rather unpleasant looking containers on the wall. The room was uninviting and rather cave like with an odd smell about it and the furniture, described as antique would have looked happy on a skip.

We were moved the next day

“fabulous old building with interesting architecture in a great location in a small, traditional mountain town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

We stayed here for the last night of our holiday, after a week self catering - Good base for visiting dramatic western coastline. We were upgraded to a suite which was fantastic, great big wooden shuttered windows, views of the mountains, a terrace and lovely old furniture - I kept expecting some Spanish colonial era aristocrats to waltz in at any moment. The staff were helpful, I only wish I spoke better Spanish to have found out more about the history of the building. The food in the restaurant was amazing, we had a special 6 small course menu of delightful specialities: on a two for one January deal it was affordable. Breakfast also great, cooked and buffet and lots of pastries and coffee. If you want to stay somewhere a bit different come here, if you want a shiny modern hotel or Irish bars and full English breakfasts, maybe not for you.

“Comfortable, rustic & friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2010

When we arrived at the hotel we were tired and in need of a good nights sleep and having not reseved in advance, we were relieved that there were rooms available. Although we had an issue with our first room being damp, management dealt with this swiftly and proffessionally and we were moved to a very pleasant room which was clean and comfortable. We did not expect the complimentary cava that accompanied the move but it was much appreciated and made our stay even more enjoyable. Breakfast was a feast but the coffee needs to catch up to the quality of the rest of the buffet . Overall the staff were pleasant and helpful. We liked the rustic, light and airy salon and would have enjoyed spending more time there .

“great place for a quiet holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

We were booked for 7 nights from 31 october and found the hotel and rooms most comfortable and a great base to travel from. Car hire is a must, though our tour operator Thomas Cook didnt advise us. Luckily, I had researched quite a lot and realised this in advance. There was a mixed type of people staying at the hotel, some were only there for one or two nights and keen walkers or cyclists, as this is very near the national
park. Others like us were there for a week. The town itself has two very good restaurants, and couple which looked interesting but were closed (possibly due to the time of year), but the hotel itself has a really good restaurant and bodega, serving excellent food. The breakfast we found very good and every morning if you chose, you could have your choice of eggs and bacon as well as a buffet style selection. All the staff were very attentive and Simone on the reception is extremely helpful. My partner wasnt too well in the first couple of days and she was able to give advice regarding doctors etc. Our only negative aspect of this week was that the pool wasnt heated and was so cold that I only saw two people use it the whole week, one of whom was my partner.
This is a really lovely, quirky and enjoyable hotel with great artwork in all the rooms and public areas. It is also a great base for exploring Lanzarote and we would definitely return here and recommend to others.

“Over priced and run down”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

My husband and I did a lot of research before our week-long trip to Lanzarote (last holiday before birth of first child in January 2011). We wanted to avoid any tacky resort-type places so booked 2 nights at Finca de las Salinas as it's off the beaten track a bit but still looked well equipped. We were really disappointed on arrival - it would have been ok 20 years ago, but now needs a serious overhaul. The new spa was half finished and although they were offering treatments, i could never find a member of staff to ask about them. The communal areas need re-decorating and they need to employ a gardner and pool cleaner - the whole pool area was dirty and untidy. Staff couldn't really care less and the food at b'fast was very poor with no replenishment by staff. At half the price i might not have felt so aggrieved but we stayed at some cheaper places which were far more pleasant.

We don´t have any comprehension for non-constructive feedback, as it´s expressed in this type of commentary.

Of course, we do understand that there are persons who may not like the style and decoration of the hotel, being a refurbished XVIII century mansion. But we don´t accept harmful commentaries of one or two clients, when we have a lot more guests in the hotel with a totally different opinion.

Naturally, there can be critics and suggestions and we try to improve by taking them into account. However, this one obviously comes from someone looking for cheap holidays.

Regarding the breakfast, if upon arrival a guest notices that it´s not proper and therefore would rather not stay in our hotel, he is free to leave without having to pay one night more.

Appointed as best Rural Hotel of the Canary Islands and with a recently inaugurated Spa, as well as a restaurant under the gastronomic guidance of the internationally renowned and Michelin awarded Chef Joachim Koerper, the hotel has obtained various seals of quality.
