“Excellent value, but terrible entertainment”

We picked this hotel for a budget late season holiday because it is in a good location, close to the beach, the town, and with parking for our hire car.
Considering the cost (very reasonable) we got excellent value in this modern, spacious, well maintained hotel.
We were self catering, so only had lunch in the poolside restaurant once, and were out an about every other day.
The rooms were cleaned daily, clean sheets and clean towels. We left a tip for the maid when we left but this wasn't expected, and we only saw her when the kids were dawdling in the morning.
The reception staff were always helpful, and the bar staff were too, although estrella beer is the only choice and it's mmmm dubious quality. Perhaps the hotel could get some non local beer in stock.
The entertainment was dire, but that perhaps reflects the time we were at the hotel at the end of the season.
There are plenty of places to eat around the hotel, and woodpecker bar and Luna's grill are both recommended.
The room didn't come with cereal bowls... seemed a bit odd for a self catering apartment, but I asked the staff and the problem was solved by getting four bowls from the restaurant.
There's a "no frills excursions" office at the bottom of the road where you can get discounted tickets for most things on the island, well worth a look.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the canals serenade you to sleep with the sound of the fountains going. I found this re...

“Perfect break for a family...”

Returned last night from a family holiday (hubbie and 2 yrs old twins) at Viva Sunrise. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2nd floor apartment overlooking the pool (booked directly with the complex).

No complaints about any aspect of our stay. Reception staff were helpful, quick check-in and accommodating for a later check-out (to 13hrs free of charge). Apartment was clean (maybe looking a little dated and worn but there are notices that the whole complex is being refurbished for 2012 - 2013) and perfect for a family (kitchen is tiny but fine for preparing breakfast and a snack). Apartment serviced every day except Sunday and Wednesday. We ate lunch pool-side at the hotel cafe a couple of days and enjoyed the service and the food (and they welcomed children). The highlight for us was the kids club.... the area contained a small playground (swing, slide, wooden train that you can climb in and a bouncy castle plus a small area with some toys and a building housing indoor activities such as colouring). Our little ones loved exploring here and it was secured with a fence so we felt we could let them run and explore. All the staff in this area were friendly and welcoming (& some spoke an impressive 5 languages fluently). These staff members also ran the mini-disco at 20hrs were the kids club characters Bufo, Kitty & Spark came on the stage and danced the night (well 40 mins!) away. Perfect for a family.

I was not so impressed with the resort of Alcudia (Brits abroad feel with restaurants serving Yorkshire pudding and Bisto gravy) but we found a gem of a place called El Loro Vende - left hand side facing sea on the main street) which servied good quality Spanish food - you could watch them cook it over hot coals) and also allowed any of their menu to be served to children which widened the choice from the standard chicken and chips!). We tried meat dishes, pasta dishes and paella - all were great with friendly service.

Overall a fantastic complex which I would recommend for families.

“The perfect family holiday!”

I have just returned from a week at the Viva Sunrise with my husband and two small boys. I have been following the reviews of this hotel since we booked and I can 100% say the excellent reviews were spot on.

Where to start. We upgraded to stay in one of the Royal Terrace Apartments, these were lovely and we were able to watch the evening shows from our terrace while the boys slept. The facilities around the pool were fantastic, the pools were very clean and terrific, kiddies pool has lots of fun slides for the children and the daily activities in the main pool kept guests entertained. The staff very friendly and the entertainment team worked their socks off. All credit to David and his team, they are very dedicated to keeping the kids and adults amused. Bufo, Katty and Spark were the heros of the week however for my 4 year old, each night they would come out and entertain and get the kids dancing and singing. The local area was lovely with a lovely walk to the port along the beach, the local bar Paco's is 2 minutes from the hotel where we spent a lot of time. I would also suggest going to the market in Old Town on a Tuesday, the restaurants and shops there are lovely.

We will be going back next year this time for 2 weeks instead of 1.

Room Tip: Book the Royal Terrace Apartments, they can be booked direct via the hotel at a great rate for the w...

“Simply excellent !”

Just returned from a five day break at the Hotel Viva Sunrise, very impressed is an understatement!

In contrast to quite a few other hotels in the area the Viva looks modern and impressive from the outside. The reception is very large and staffed with very helpful staff who all spoke excellent English!

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was spotless when we arrived, the kitchen / living area was adequate but may have been on the small side if you did want to stay in and cook! The bedroom was a good size, the only downside being that instead of a double bed there was two singles pushed together....this was the only negative (albeit a very minor one!!)

The bathroom was a decent size with a very powerful shower!!

Our balcony overlooked the street outside and the man-made river with fountains, if you want to be able to sit in the sun on your balcony then I would suggest requesting a pool view room as we received minimal sunlight on our balcony.

The pool area was brilliant, plenty of beds regardless what time you got to the pool. They also had a lifeguard on at all times which made it much safer for children!!

I would defenately recommend this hotel to others as a very good base in Alcudia, plenty of cheap bars within two minutes and the beach is a ten minute walk away!

One last suggestion....any visit to this area should be accompanied with a visit to El Jardin restaurant which is across the road at the end of the street if you turn right of the hotel....quite simply put, the best meal I've ever had!!
