“9 days stay, September 2011”

It is great location in September for youg couples. Even it is prefered by the families with kids, in September due to school already start the only children present are the ones who doesn't make noise :) the small one and babies. So in my opinion dont't worry about noise or crowdness in September.
My stay was very good, I had a standard apartment with Sea View to the East side. The beaches are wondefull as well as the sand and didn't feel the need to use the 2 pools although looked great anyway.
If you are not half pension or all inclusive but self catering as I have been than you have to rely on your own room cooking facilities or on the restaurants rathe routsid ethe hotel. They have also Finca restaurant (pay pe ruse) which is ok but server only fix menues and I would strongly recommend to the hotel introduce a menu a la carte approach to encourage peoples like me to go there more often in such periods like Sept when resort is not full.

Although parking around the hotel side streets is permitted I would also ask to Hotel to expand the inside parking area since it is obviously that most people will rent a car there due to the location of the resort. I do recommend having a car rented even from Airport because the Island has so many beautifull places that it is a pitty to stay only in the resort althought its beaches are great Cala Romantica and Cala Mendia.

I would definetly stay in the same resort if I would come back in the future as couple with or without children.

Room Tip: Ask and pay for Sea View.

“A nice family hotel with lovely atmosphere”

This hotel has an exceptional location on a mountain right in the middle of two very nice beaches. The entertainment is very good organized and child friendly. Even a good place for couples to relax. Very good managed hotel. Clean, not too big, enough space, very good fitness faciltities, tennis courts, soccer, basketball and two large swimming pools. The on day entertainment on the pools is great and free wlan on the pool!

“Good for Families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

The Resort / Hotel

There is no doubting, this resort is large and to cater for 2000+ holiday makers it needs to be. Thankfully as rooms/apartments are spread around a bit, you’ll hopefully find yourself not sitting on top of one another.

I would be mindful however of the room you get. We were lucky to get one of the apartments on E block (sounds like a prison!), which was sea facing and well away from the pools and entertainment. It can get very noisy around these areas; pools during the day and the outdoor stage area during the night.

Personally I would try and get a sea facing apartment, it was a fantastic view with some nice breezes. I also think if you get one of these you should be safe from the noise mentioned above. We paid a little extra for this but it was worth it.

The Staff

Apart from a small incident at the beginning of our holiday, which I won’t bore you with, the staff were excellent and extremely helpful. Whilst most of the cliental were either German, French or Italian the staff spoke a lot of languages. Occasionally they struggled but we got there in the end….we are in their country after all.

The Animation staff (AKA Entertainment staff to you and I) are amazing and full of energy. They certainly looked after all the children of varying ages (within different groups) and whilst as I mentioned the majority of children spoke another language this didn’t seem to matter. My youngest is shy at the best of times and even he wanted to join in at the end.

There was a show every night, most you didn’t need to understand the language, a little cheesy but ok for something to do.

The Food

We took the all inclusive option and from the looks of it most of the other holiday makers did as well. It was a good arrangement as all members of the family were given a little plastic wristband, which allowed them basically everything. The kids enjoyed this as they could get as many ice creams/lollies they wanted.

There are four main places to eat:

The main dining room – Breakfast, lunch and dinner all served here and as per some of the other reviews, at times there are queues to get in but the longest wait we ever had was 5 minutes and you’re quickly at your table. There are plenty of chefs cooking the more popular foods to keep them topped up. The only problem we occasionally had was the lack of plates and had to wait a few minutes for fresh ones to appear. The waiters are very quick to remove empties from your table. The food was basic but plentiful. All in all it was ok but a little crowded at times for our liking.

The Pizza Place

This was a nice addition, you could either have a pizza/pasta at the separate restaurant area, which was next to the pool; or take some away to your room or sun lounger. There was always a table here and never any queues. The menu was a little basic but it let us escape from the dining room!

The Café

This is where we tended to have our lunch. The food is very basic – burgers, hot dogs, nuggets etc with salads available for the more healthy. All in a buffet style.

The Main Restaurant

This was the fancier place to eat and you have to book. To be honest we wanted a more restful relaxed break so didn’t venture in as they demand a more respectful dress code (shorts not permitted).

The Pools

There are 3 pools in all, one indoors, which isn’t open during the summer months and two outdoor ones.

Both have little pools for small children and one has a beach effect that gradually slopes into the deeper area. The latter has a bar nearby as well.

I would say if you want a sun lounger then you’re going to need to get up early to get one. It says in the hotel pack that you shouldn’t reserve these loungers but I viewed many that had a towel on them for most of the day, the owner of the towel turned up at 3pm! That said, like true mad dogs and Englishmen, we turned up at midday and just put our towels down on the grass verge so there was never a problem.

The Beach.

There are two beaches in close proximity to the hotel but are public therefore you’ll need to pay for the umbrella/sun lounger of you need them. I think it was about €3 per lounger and then you had it for the whole day so not bad. When we went down there was always a number available. The nearest beach is accessed via some steep steps and rocky pathway so not suitable for buggies or the infirm but well worth the walk if you can make it. There are also bars down there to purchase food or drinks. One of them sold some very nice ice cream.

The Surrounding Area reminded me of an old Mexican film and it wouldn’t have surprised me if some tumble weed came rolling down the street. There is a small spar outside that sold the usual and the chemist was a 10 minute walk from the resort. There are also a couple of cash points nearby.

I’m not sure we would go there again, not because we wouldn’t want to but we like to try somewhere new each year. I would possibly advise going in half term rather than the main holiday break to avoid the crowds though. All in all, glad we went and felt rested at the end of it.

Room Tip: Go for a sea facing apartment, well worth the little extra you have to pay.

“Nice but not 4 star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

We have just returned from a 10 night stay at Punta Reina, we being two 40 odd year olds and two children age 9 and 7 and have never written a review before but felt we should on this occassion. I.d just like to point out that we dont normally moan but...This hotel is in a lovely spot but its in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!!!
We booked early day time flights and arrived at the hotel at 11.30am but couldnt check into our room until 2.30, no room was provided for us to change so we spent a sweaty 3 hours in the clothes we had left home in at 3am in the morning in! We had paid extra for a sea view as previous reviews recommended it and were surprised to be shown to a pool view room, when I questioned this with the receptionist she explained that you could see the sea from this room, between the two buildings in front of us! It was so loud overlooking the pool, which can best be described as a bit of a cattle market. We stuck this room for 2 nights before going to reception to ask for a move. I was expecting a bit of an arguement but they were very obliging and moved us next day to a proper sea view room. And what a view absolutely stunning! Worth the inconvenience. But I still felt as though we had wasted a day of our hols on their mistake. All the rooms are the same size and are the smallest we have ever stayed in, not big enough for 4 more suitable for 3 people and the free air conditioning is rubbish, it hardly blew in either room. On a plus note, they were cleaned every day.
The hotel is mainly geared towards all inclusive but we always opt for self catering as we hate being stuck in the same place and boy are we glad we did, the place was packed to the rafters and queing at the bar for drinks in tiny plastic cups seemed to be an evening out for most guests. We only ate once at the hotel, in the pizza restaurant and it was ok but nothing fantastic.
The pool in August is a joke! There is no room around it all and you are literally inches away from your neighbours most of who smoke constantly, we only stayed by the pool once as you had to set your alarm to get down there by 7am to queue for an hour before they unlock the beds at 8am so it was down to the beaches for us. There are 2 beaches, one either side of the hotel, which are absolutely gorgeous and to be honest we much prefer to spend our days by the med and not like sardines by the pool. the beach restaurants are excellent too and good value for money for lunches.
The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, it is NOT in Porto Christo, its a taxi ride away, the taxis are 8-9 euros each way but here is nothing around the hotel so its worth paying as there are some lovely restaurants there and some nice shops, but go early as most of the shops closed at 8! If you do decide to stay local theres a lovely little restaurant just outside down the hill, Las Palmeras, the steaks here are to die for and as its very good value for money. There are very few English at this resort and as a result most of the evening entertainment was aimed at German, French, Spanish guests, the kids loved it either way and we just clapped when everybody else did! The animation team do work hard and are very good, but again the area gets so busy the advise is get there early.
Besides beach, pool, Caves of Drach there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO at the resort and the hotel does not offer any information on things to do in the surrounding area, obviously they want you to stay in the complex, we found this frustrating as we like to see and do stuff so our advise if you want to see a bit of Majorca is to hire a car, there are a couple of boat trips from the beach outside hotel, they dont advertise this but if you go down to Cala Romantica beach you can pick up a timetable.
On the whole this is a nice hotel/complex but it could be a lot better, it is very commercially run and we felt that we were just a number, not a name.Maybe going out of season it would be better???
