“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

Having stayed at many similar hotels over the past few years I have to say that this one is, all things considered, probably the best one I have experienced.

The main building is smart, spacious and modern, which could leave you feeling a little disappointed when you enter your room as they are fairly standard, but they are comfortable, clean and reasonably furnished. Our 1 bed apartment (allocated to us even though we'd only paid for a studio) had slightly dated decor, a well-used portable TV and could be a little noisy when the plumbing of adjacent rooms was in use, but it was something we got used to and the air conditioning was a welcome bonus.

The food was excellent, of a quality I have never eaten before in an all inclusive, and rather than the typical large trays of food being kept lukewarm for extended periods, smaller trays were utilised and replenished as necessary. There was always a very good choice and plentiful supply. The snack food available poolside was also very good and available all day, with a very good choice on offer.

In the restaurant wine by the bottle was always available, along with beer, water and soft drinks (or a glass of fizz at breakfast).

In the bars the drinks were mostly international brands served in good measures. The pool bar also had a serve-yourself soft drinks dispenser although you did have to dodge the wasps that congregated there.

The service was also very good. One or two of the staff can seem a little miserable at first but if you are polite with them they do become considerably more friendly (Russians do give them a bit of a hard time).

The restaurant was often really busy, yet tables were never hard to come by as the staff cleaned and re-laid them with great efficiency and once seated your drinks were never long in arriving. The bar staff were also good, with ice cubes and fruit slices often flying through
the air as they entered party mode during quieter periods.

The entertainment here is pretty standard fare with the usual mini-disco for the kids and a dance-orientated show afterwards. It's not something I really bother too much about but the team here do work very hard and often circulate, making every effort to have a chat with all the holidaymakers

Some comment has been passed about this hotel only being suitable for Germans, who probably make up 90% of the clientele, but I have to say that for us, as an English couple, this was a real bonus. All too often my experience at an all inclusive hotel has been soured by groups of loud Brits, parading their garish tattoos and their beer bellies as they over indulge in the extreme, whilst their unruly offspring run riot. The men are often just as bad too. None of that here though. Respectable people, with respectable children, friendly and polite to a fault with the most orderly queues for food and drink that I have ever witnessed and not a reserved sunbed in sight. If you're coming here to make dozens of new friends, you might feel a tad underwhelmed if you don't 'sprechen Deutsch' but for us, wanting a quiet-ish laid back holiday, it was bliss.

All in all, a very enjoyable few days away, with great weather and lovely little beaches dotted around the Cala Mandia area.

Would definitely return.

just returned from a weeks stay here with partner and 2 kids 10 and 4,we had the best holiday ever ,our whole experience was out this world.we arrived at airport at 9.30pm and had a long wait to get baggage which delayed our transfer bus and by the time we got to it there were alot of angry looking holidaymakers giving us glares once we got on transfer bus it took us 50 minutes to reach our hotel it was a pleasant drive and once the bus pulled up we couldnt belive our luck when the driver shouted our names and said this was our hotel it looked stunning in the dark all lit up we were the last on the bus and the first and only ones to get off at this hotel ,we heard people gasping as we got off saying wow look at that one !!!!we got off bus at stood gathering our things and a porter was already picking up our suitcaes and ushering us into hotel we checked in in minutes and were taken to our room by porter with our luggage ,it was a perfect start to a perfect holiday.dining was an experience we looked forward to daily the selection of foods were plentiful ,breakfast was good cereals cold meats baguettes crepes croissants pain au chocolate selection of cakes cooked breakfasts endless varieties of fruits something for everyone lunch was excellent and dinners were the best i have eaten ,,great effort is clearly put in to present everything ice sculptures and fruit figures give it a stunning touch, all inclusive bar was just that branded labels available smirnoff gins malibu etc etc etc local beer was lovely and cocktails went down a treat.evening entertainment was so good we never left hotel in the evenings the entertainment team amazed me with their efforts shows were well rehearsed and they have an extremely talented team that work extremely hard to ensure you have a briliant holiday ,guilia was one of the dancers and i cant believe she not doing bigger and better things she was brilliant ,matteo was a diamond he has given us so many great memories david did the kids entertainment in the evening ,he was so good with the children and lydia another kids entertainer really made our holiday, they were the nicest of people.we miss everyone so much already .pools are great one large one with bridge over it and a kids pool great for my 4 year old there was also a pool for the toddlers which was very popular, indoor pool was lovely option when it got a bit too hot for kids lovely relaxing bubble pool and above indoor swimming pool there was a beauty parlour if you fancied massage or manicure(charges for this)picnic boxes available if you are going on days out ,we went all inclusive and booked with travel republic we got a real bargain and cant believe it was so nice, snack bar was also great pizzas burgers sandwiches salad chips fresh fish fresh fruit chicken nuggets sausages the choice differed daily ice creams and lollies also differed there was so much choice it was unreal, bar staff pleasant but treated like dirt by the germans which was the only complaint of our holiday it was mainly germans and from our experience we found them extremely rude and disrespectful the staff do so well and always have a smile on their faces beaches nearby one right on the doorstep we stayed in buiding A there are 4 different blocks A the main block B is across the road and C is opposite that all steps away block D is the furthest away but we wouldnt be bothered if we booked again and were put there all blocks have pools etc so we wouldnt have preference pool A can get very busy so if you want to relax D would be more peaceful.i hope this review is helpful we will be bookin again asap cant wait to return dont understand bad reviews here the place is brilliant

“brilliant weekend”

stayed at this hotel for the weekend with 7 of my girl freinds, and i think i speak for us all when i say we had a brilliant time!

the food was really good, the staff were really friendly (well all except 1!) and the rooms were cleam and spacious.

the hotels biggest fault however that its fo far from the airport, and its not a great road there. there isn't a lot to do outside of the hotel at night without getting a taxi but luckily the shows in the evening were really good.

also the beach thats 2 mins away is like having your own private beach, really pretty

Room Tip: go all inclusive, its definately worth it

follow this road down and up til you reach a roundabout and your there
about the resort
arrived after midnight and cold buffet was available for us we were in block a which is the main block
all inc gold is supurb real smirnoff bells bacardi etc make sure you specify what you want at the bar otherwise they just give you the local stuff
a finer selection of food i have never seen at any other hotel i have ever stayed at
you are tied th the hotel as there were only a couple of local bars open
so put a few drinks in the room in the fridge for later bars close at midnight
not for the brits really but you make the most of it

“CONNED by ALPHAROOMS.Dont book it if your English looking for quality coz they only look after the Germans.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

Just returned from Insotel Cala Mandia 24th Sept. We had a great time and made the most of being conned by ALPHAROOMS. We were meant to be staying in the Ferrera Blanca in Cala Dor but they double booked us so we had to change. We paid quite a bit to upgrade to a suite and arrived at the hotel just before midnight. The greeting we got from the staff at reception was absolutely woeful. They were clearly aware of what we had booked but just kept giving us the foreign treatment, making out their english was as bad as their hair do's. In the end we had to surrender to their unhelpfulness and make our way to prisoner cell block D with the rest of the English as we couldnt contact ALPHAROOMS til the morning and when we did they didnt want to know. We had our 2 year old daughter with us and they told us we had to make our way down the hill then up the hill and round the corner. They said it was only 600 yards. We had 3 cases and a buggy so there was no chance we fancied that. Luckily one of the lovely receptionists allowed us to use the phone to ring 2 taxis which we had to pay for to take us to camp D. SHOCKING.
On the whole the food was good, facilities ok and weather was great. Its just the greeting on arrival was shocking and the way they treated a family with a young child was terrible.
If you are NOT English then you will get treated very well and always with a smile. But IF YOU ARE ENGLISH then do not let these horrible, rude people spoil your well earned break.
This is the first review I have ever written and we go abroad a few times a year and always think your holiday is what you make it. But it may take me a while to get this one out of my system.
Please go and find somewhere else.

Room Tip: Sleep by the pool.
