I thought I would provide a review, as I had found myself trawling tripadvisor for a decent hotel, I thought it would be good to give feedback on how the hotel matched the reviews.
We travelled as a large family two rooms, 4 adults, 1 child. I will break down the hotel in to the following catergories
1- arrival
Arriving at night we were very pleasantly surprised at how nice the hotel looked. We had arrived at some very questionable hotels prior to our drop off, so it was a nice relief. Its very clean and tidy, set slightly away from the town of porto colom. Transfer time was a little long (approx just over an hour) we were greated with a plate of cold meets and various snacks for our evening meal. Which was nice after a long journey.
2- Rooms
The rooms are clean (a little basic) but quite modern and very comfortable. Cleaned everyday with fresh towels. Bathroom fine. Not a bad holiday hotel room infact. Not a noisy hotel. Hall ways are spacious clean and modern. Only issue would be with the lifts, but that is commonplace in any busy hotel.
3- Guests
The hotel accomodates 90% non english. Mainly Italian, French and German. But this is no issue. Only for the entertainment, which we didnt use anyway. The guests are mostly families so we found it a very respectful atmosphere. no rowdy guests to speak of.
4-Food
Food was nothing special, but enjoyable. My son found something to eat, and as there was a buffet, ended up trying quite a lot of food he wouldnt normally. Which was good. It can get busy, and tables become a bit rare, so try and get there early. Each night there was a special food cooked. e.g Paella night.
5- Special pool side party.
One night per week the hotel hosts a poolside party. Which actually isnt as baad as it sounds. White cloths are draped over all the chairs and loungers, and candles are lit around the pool giving a very chilled atmosphere where parents and groups can meet for drinks (they especially open the pool side bar for this til 12am)
6- Resort
The resort I thought was ace. It was peacful, with no rowdy crowds, just respectful families. The beach was a very special beach, with 3-4 bars overlooking the side of the beach (good for lunch and night time drinks) Though it lacked anything to do. The hotel has an amazing location. With the Bus stop on the road where you cross to the beach. Its literally a 5 min walk onto the beach (mostly through the hotel grounds) Porto colom is just around the corner, and requires a walk up a light hill, though I didnt find this an issue, people in wheelchairs might find this an issue - similarly the hotel and surrounding area is slightly raised (say 2 stories) up from the beach, making it a slight effort for a walk. Porto colom is very big, which a small amount of bars and restaurants, but enough to find somewhere to eat and drink on a stroll.
A slight down side was the lack of things for my son to do. There is only so much beach play and jumping into swimming pools on his own he can do. If he had a friend it would be different. But as there were no other english speaking children, I feel he was alittle lonely at times. (theres only so much play with their dads a child can afford)
OUtside the resort there really isnt anywhere to visit (apart from the caves of Drach). So a week for us, was just enough.
