“good value for money”

just got back 09/10/11 fantastic value, clean, quiet and lovely food with a vast choice of real food, no burgers... My wife and i were the only Brits in the hotel which was really quite refreshing.
The friendly smiling reception and dining room staff welcomed us on a daily basis and all were able to help with any enquiries or problems.
The only issue we encountered was that due to smoking bans within the hotel a good number of smokers would sit on the entrance steps reluctant to move aside when we went in or out and making the entrance and reception area smell like an old ashtray, on first impressions wasn't good. Would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Make sure the WC flushes properly

“the pool was fab, food horrendous!”

we stayed here for a week with my 9 year old son. We arrived at 11pm and were checked into wrong apartment! As i opened the door someone shouted, it was already occupied! Not a great start. We finally got an empty one and it was fine. Lovely big balcony over looking the square which was the main hub of the town. Unfortunately we shared the apartment with lots of ants, which is probably due to the fact the apartment is only cleaned twice in a week, and beds not changed at all. We were on a half board basis. Breakfast was normal european standard, but evening meal was horrendous, it was buffet and if you're veggie like me,then be prepared to live on salad & chips for the week! The hotel is also predominantly occupied by Germans, and everything at the hotel is geared towards them, including the kids club and you get the feeling that you are invading their territory! Pool was the saving grace, my son loved it. If you are looking for a lively holiday then Porto Colom is not for you. We don't really go in for lively, so a stroll along the lovely harbour after dinner and a stop off at the gelataria on the way back, suited us! The little square also had a little market twice and a couple of other nights of entertainment which we used to watch from our balcony. When on the beach we saw lots of other english people, so who knows where they were staying, but I would probably investigate where!!!

Room Tip: if you must stay here, then one overlooking the square!

“A lovely relaxing break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

Have just returned from this hotel and even though it was 95% german occupied we still had a quiet relaxing break.
It was in a ideal location for the resort which is very quiet and typically spanish, which is just what we wanted.
We were on a half board basis and breakfast was good, with a wide variety of food including a cooked breakfast. Dinner was very basic though, and my 4 year old wasnt catered for at all,and considering it was full of german families and lots of kids, they could have put on more food than just pasta, tomato sauce and chicken nuggets, and thats why Ive rated it average but everything else was good , only other gripe was the pool was getting very dirty round the edges, and its a beautiful large pool so could really do with a good clean, but that didnt stop us using it as the weather was glorious.
Special mention to our waiter Tomas who was very attentive and Paula on reception.
The Seacat is well worth a trip to Cala Dor from the harbour in Porto Colom and you can easily get around the island on the very efficient red bus service, pick up a timetable from reception, bus stop is just round the corner and they run to schedule.

“Not so good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

For what you pay for this hotel it isn't worth it. The rooms are really old and outdated and definately need to be updated. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. It is also very much a family hotel so if you are a couple or a group of young friends then I wouldn't recommend . The location also isn't that great as it isn't particularly close to a beach.
