Travelled to the hotel with the NHSRF group and Della Holidays. Hotel was only 45 mins from the airport in the evening, though a longer journey by coach on return.
The week's stay was during the last week of the season in October but the staff were very attentive and the choice of food very good. There was even food prepared at 9 pm on the day of arrival. A free bar each day was a bonus and although the wine was not top quality, spirits and beer were fine, especially as included. Our room on the fourth floor was clean, with towels and soap etc certainly up to 3 star standard. The view from the balcony was over the harbour entrance and sunrise each day a splendour.
There is a swimming pool on a terrace overlooking the sea which could be planted up
to improve, but the land between the sea and the hotel is public and cannot be built on in any way.
Drinking water was best bought and used for tea etc. [take your own kettle] as the local supply is desalinated but still salty to taste.
Porto Colom itself is a quiet town with a delightful harbour,an old town and small market, plenty of cafes and a chance to mix with the locals. Regular buses take you to Porto Cristo, the Caves of Drach or the Sunday market at Felanitx. Coach trips to Palma and Soller are well worth a try. October was warm and dry and certainly a good time to visit. In the end you get what you pay for.
